Must be my hearing then Erik.
I convert the cached *.flv files to 320kbps mp3 files and the resultant tracks sound okay - as long as the audio quality of the video is good. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

You're opening up a new area again Alan. Erik doesn't agree with me but there is a difference between 320 and a straight lossless CD recording.

I'm currently using my native browser on my phone and everything looks fine. But using Opera Mobile the layout and functionality is terrible. One minute it was fine before I commented, them I made a comment and it looked terrible.
Anyone else having problems? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I suppose that no one else uses Opera Mobile? So the problem (still evident) is probably my own.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Curious. The forum layout looks fine when I use Opera Mini rather than Opera Mobile. I am not sure what the differences are between the two phone browsers...The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

How can I increase the volume output of my laptop without the sound becoming distorted?
It's going to an amp but if i simply turn the volume up there's hiss so I need to turn it up at the computer itself.
iTunes has a "volume adjustment" option which does what I want (doesn't create distortion) but it's still not nearly loud enough. Playing around with the equalizer doesn't seem to help. -

Hiss, like electrical noise? Laptops grounding is known to cause such a noise. If yes, get a good external audio card (usb for instance) with balanced connections (out and in).Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I think it's just crap coming from the soundcard.
What good external cards are compatible with Mac?
My setup is quite simple really - I want a single headphone jack coming from the soundcard to my amp and the card must support virtual 5.1. -

I have my Freecom external hard drive that mapped to "E" and when I added the WD Passport drive it mapped to "F". So far, so good.
I wanted to plug in the second WD Passport at the same time as the first Passport drive, but the laptop doesn't seem to recognise the second drive added.
Any solution? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Try renaming the first one and then see if it recognises the second. -

I renamed the second My Passport drive with an "02" extension but that did not seem to help. Whichever drive I plug in my computer fails to show the second drive when I plug it in.
Can computers "see" more than one external drive when they are plugged in together? (I sort of know the answer is yes because the computer can see both the Passport and the Freecom external drives when plugged in.)
Maybe my computer cannot differentiate between the two drives from the same brand? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

That's what I was thinking with renaming it.
Do both drives work invidually?
If so do they both work individually in both USB ports?
Sometimes drives need to be formatted before they appear in explorer. Go to Control Panel > Administritive Settings > Computer Management then Disk Management down the bar on the left and see if it appears there. -

Thor's annoyance with the quirks of Windows 7 prompts me to ask this:
Is there a way to customise which folders are presented when I open Windows Explorer? Currently, when I open Windows Explorer I find that the Desktop>Libraries folder is opened by default. I then have to trawl through the various directories to get the one that I usually use.
There must be a way to customise this? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

There is indeed a way to customize Windows Explorer. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder you want to access frequently. Click on the folder and hold the mouse button down while dragging the folder to the "Favorites" icon in the folder tree. Favorites should be at the top of the folder tree above "Libraries". Hope this helps. Travis -

Yeah, I found that out myself, but I still think the current Explorer is far more chaotic than the older version. Lots of "double dipping" on files and folders (the library thing holds the "My pictures" etc., as well as them being in your personal folder).
As far as the Start Menu is concerned, I found a program that changes it back, so it's no more or less the classic set-up.
But I now have a problem with the latest version of Opera. How do I remove those socalled "shortcut" window choices that appear when you close all windows? I find them annoying.I am extremely serious. -

Do you mean the pre-selected websites in the quickdial windows? If you do then there should be a cross to the right of the window title. Clicking on that removes the quickdial address. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Yeah, but the next time I log on, they're back. I was thinking about disabling the entire function, as I see no purpose to it.I am extremely serious. -

Again, I am assuming that it is the series of Quick Dial windows that you are talking about?
If you hover the cursor over the offending shortcut and right button click on it you are presented with a couple of choices that will be useful. "Delete" which will clear the site and "Edit" which will allow you to select a new site to add to that Speed Dial window.
But your issue is that you cannot seem to retain the setup that you customise yourself? Your own set shortcuts disappear only to be replaced with the old default shortcuts? Have you tried the dropdown menu from the red "Menu" tab at the top left corner of the browser? Selecting Settings > Preferences takes you into a "General" tab that offers some options. Though I cannot see anything that could immediately help you.
That's all I can think of at the moment. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Thanks, Alan (yes, I was talking about the quick dial thing), but it wasn't so much removing the shortcuts, but rather disabling the quick dial function altogether. Couldn't find any such button anywhere on the page, the preferences or anywhere else.
No biggie, though. As long as I get a fresh site when I click a new banner, it's manageable.I am extremely serious. -
- CommentTimeJun 19th 2011
There is an option in the general tab in preferences that asks how you want to start a new window tab in the Opera browser.
I have chosen the option to start with speed dial. But you can set it to start with how last session ended, or from a homepage. This may what you want and stops you seeing the speed dial page.
