    A new video clip taken directly out of the new The Clone Wars movie has completely reaffirmed my faith in Kiner's composing ability. The style of music suits the film very well (not as 'rocky' as previous clips and the website have shown), from what I can see, and I am more hyped-up than ever for the release of the OST. biggrin Some really awesome stuff, in my opinion. punk

    These days I have to be selective in what i see at the theatre. I don't get out as much as I use to because of my two year old therefore I save my hard earned for movies I REALLY want to see on the big screen... for example Indiana Jones 4, Wall-E and The Dark Knight. As for The Clone Wars... I'll wait for DVD. I watch the majority of my movie now at home. It's much cheaper and easier to do.

    WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!

    This is really not what I was expecting... On the orchestra/recording side, the City of Prague Philharmonic sounds as though it has been coupled with MIDI instruments... (Maybe it has?) On the score side, Obi-Wan to the Rescue, Jabba's Chamber Dance, Ziro's Nightclub Band, Seedy City Swing, Courtyard Fight, and Dooku Speaks With Jabba all sound terrible (at least for music from a Star Wars film, I think), though I'm interested to hear their use in the film. Although some tracks (to be more accurate, their previews) make me cringe, there are still some really nice ones (IMO) to help cancel out the bad, such as Star Wars Main Title / A Galaxy Divided, Battle of Christophsis, Meet Ahsoka, Destroying the Shield, Jedi Don't Run!, The Jedi Council (which sounds great, very Star Wars-like), General Loathsom / Ahsoka, Rough Landing, Padmé Imprisoned, Fight to the End (some gorgeous string stuff here), and End Credits (which is basically a repeat of Star Wars Main Title / A Galaxy Divided). I'm still excited for this, but it pains me a bit to find the main Star Wars theme present only in the first and last tracks... And the orchestra quality is very, very far from the LSO sound we have grown to love.

    New video at StarWars.com, apparently featuring entirely Kiner's music throughout. I myself am quite impressed with Kiner's reuse of John Williams' Force Theme. I actually thought at first that the music was taken directly from one of the live action films! Bravo, Mr. Kiner! applause
  14. There was a reference to Kiner's music for Star Wars: The Clone Wars in this month's review of the film in Empire magazine:

    "...the absence of the Fox fanfare (substituted by the Warner Bros.' theme) is followed with no opening crawl, and the main title feels awkward without John Williams' iconic score - replaced by a proficient but less grand offering from Kevin Kiner..."

    I think so too, and one person in particular. But it's something that he seems excited about, so for him I hope it's not a disappointment!

    I probably won't even watch it. Might give the score a try if people show enthusiasm for it. (Once they've heard it I mean.)

    Possibly, but it's still Star Wars. biggrin This thread will likely quiet down after the film and series are released and aired, respectively, but I didn't create this thread just to be about Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Who knows, if Kiner gets some recognition and praise for this score, he may very well develop into a more well-known composer...

    Star Wars was done, and it's over and it was absolutely mind-blowingly brilliant, a once in a lifetime thingy. This is not Star Wars, it's easily-forgettable, money-making Star Crap, i don't think i need to bring a scientist in to explain why wink

    Well, you probably are correct. I am just very interested in hearing how this compares to the Williams scores.

    Oh, i am too interested in the score, but i don't think it'll be the slightest comparable to John Williams work nor I think it's fair to compare.

    I wonder, is it fair to compare? This is a Star Wars film after all, and they don't deliberately try to make them lesser than the originals, they just happen to turn out like that 99% of the time, so why not compare?

    I agree that this score will in all likely be incomparable to Williams' scores, but does that mean it's unfair to compare? (I'm not saying it either is or isn't, just asking the questions really.)

    I think it's fair. It still is a Star Wars film, like you said.

    It is unfair 'cause your comparing what's possibly the best moment in the career of one of the best (if not THE best, at least when it comes to film music only) composers of the last 100 years or so to a young composer who's just starting out.

    That's a good point. But Kiner wasn't just handpicked off the street. He auditioned for the job, and of all the composers who were interested, Lucas chose him.

    and Kiner isn't exactly a young composer who's just starting out. He was doing Stargate 11 years ago and has been doing films and telemovies since the mid 90s!

    Either step up or step down. If you can't handle the obvious criticism that going to come with the job of scoring a Star Wars film then hand over the duties to someone who can.
