Yeah, okay. You've... really lost me now. I'm out...
  1. I had nothing to do with Deepak Chopra. I never really heard of him, BTW biggrin

You should. You'll probably like him. wink
  2. Read on him on Wikipedia. I won't like him. biggrin

Say what you want about Christianity, but the basic concept of it is very coherent, much more than whatever Chopra tries to discuss.

And being religious doesn't warrant nor explain creationism. I also disagree with your notion that religion still has to "explain" anything. Not since Nietzsche. The "God is dead" argument is precisely about that. Some religious thought actually did take note.

Depends what he means by 'basic concept' and 'coherent', as these things are so often open to interpretation if you're religious. Though Christianity, as it really is, is completely non-sensical, no matter which philosophical bullshit one likes to play.
  4. The basic concept of the inherent *morality* not the backstory. And rather the teachings of Christ than the Old Testament. There was strong discussion about keeping (or not) the basic Law in early Christianity (e.g. should people be circumcised or not?) and it was voted against it not to alienate potential believers.

Excellent speech -- and I can say that even as a Christian.

My understanding of the basic concept: Judaism is all well and good, but a faith needs to enrich your life now, not merely in the hereafter, it should be for all rather than for a chosen few, and it should do more than reinforce a temporal power structure. Hard not to see why that thing would spread like wildfire if that's what a believer thought they were getting. (Note: These are all aspects where the practice of Christianity has many times fallen short of the advertisement.)

Now there is another way of looking at the basic concept, and I can well understand if this one seemed a bit more convoluted: that it took the sacrifice of a deity within a particular man to make it possible. Even that I can see would aid the spread of the premise -- the hardest work has apparently already been done by someone who cares.

(Compare to the selling strategies behind some of our greatest business models -- you'll probably find there's more than a few overlaps.)

Maybe let's get a nice emoticon and just make it :kenham: ? biggrin

Seriously though, this kind of thing should be destroyed in its inception. As I keep saying, I see no reason to see science and religion at odds. Not anymore.

He's just too easy a target. (But he is a fucking idiot.)
  7. Why is it every time I read or hear the word "inception" these days I hear foghorn blasts? crazy
  8. When the seventh angel blew his trumpet, there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The world's kingdom has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will rule forever and ever."

    Revelation 11:15

  9. There ain't no trumpets in Inception, as far as I remember.

Love it! But i also prefer the 'horn of doom' name smile You gotta love all those film music geeky trademarked names, like "the danger motif" etc.

Good for entertainment, but that parent was really being an ass just for the fun of it. I sympathize with the chaplain.
    I am extremely serious.

The chaplain would have deserved a ton of kudos points if he had played along, but I have no sympathy for people without a sense of humour.

At the very least you guys have got to admit that the drawing looks like the bunny is about to drop an egg on Jesus.
