And be sure not to accept application invitations your friends will probably flood you with; applications (games and unecessary crap) turn facebook quickly into a huge, slow-loading boring and annoying thing.

I notice that in some peoples' pages they have a tab "boxes". It seems to be populated by a variety of different things.

How do I add this to my own profile?

Don't forget to read all the stuff in the settings and profile and set the right privacy levels.
Some options in Facebook can only be changed if you disable Adblock.
I have an account but rarely login. It's a scary place.

I think various applications you add go in there? Are you sure you want to add those? It's mostly annoying crap.
