The Sea Hawk Korngold (William T. Stromberg)

My first listen to the Stromberg album. I'll put it this way; it certainly won't be my last.

Holy frick on a stick. This is amazing.

Isn't it a mind blower! Such a mammoth score filled with rich and exciting themes and textures!
It's the Star Wars of its time!
Now check it out in the film. Korngold nailed the score perfectly for each scene. Great film too!

I must get the Stromberg album slant

I agree, the movie was great too!

    NP: Enchanted - Alan Menken

I was wondering of which score one part of Into The Well reminds me... now I realized it's Morricone's The Mission. biggrin Probably it's unconscious, but Beauty & The Beast reference on Nathaniel And Pip is obviously not unconscious biggrin biggrin

Seems on first listen to be a somewhat innocuous thriller score.

Exactly the same referred to his Righteous Kill. Seems he is doing these in packs.

The choir in Storybook Ending is very similar to that in Sanctuary! of HoND. Both are terrific action cues! punk

  6. I didn't have Starship Troopers on DVD for such a long time but I picked it up the other day when I saw the "Starship Troopers Trilogy" DVD set going cheap.

It goes without saying that there's not much wrong with the first movie and, although I haven't yet seen the second installment the score has some highlights that I'd like to see in context.

But I was interested in the third movie - Starship Troopers: Marauder - that features a score by Klaus Badelt. imdb.com suggests that the movie is not too good and from watching the end credits, the music isn't much good either! No wonder there's been little talk of Badelt's score. Cheap-sounding and synth-only, it's definitely worth avoiding.

Is Badelt dropping down the composer pecking order? I mean, composing synth scores for straight to DVD B- films rolleyes

I have the house to myself so I'm being totally self indulgent and playing everything loud cool

Yet again I've decided to play the original tracks which I'm not as used to as the re-recorded album.

    NP: Powder - Jerry Goldsmith

The main man wrote a very good score for a pretty good movie... It's not one I return to often, but when I do I go completely humid around the eyes. Goldsmith had a knack for creating the most emotionally gut wrenching themes.

Knut Avenstroup Haugen - Age Of Conan - Hyborian Adventures (game score)

The * Nighttime Journey Through The Eiglophian Mountains piece is one of the most impressive ones i've heard this year. Great stuff, surprisingly epic, bold and melodic. Coherent musical work with a logical structure that is purely musical and doesn't sound as fragmented at all and the vocal work is equally impressive.
