EAGLE EYE | BRIAN TYLER
One big mother f**king powerhouse of a score!!!
If Bangkok Dangerous is the new War, this is definitely the new AVPR.
HELL YES.
===================================================================
My first listen continues...
''Ladders'' is one insanely good cue - Tyler goes nuts with the percussion.
I'm not surprised LA started shaking - it was probably the recording of this score that started the earthquake!
===================================================================
6 minute car chase cue!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
===================================================================
Wow. "Clutch Then Shift" is AMAZING. It goes on for four and a half minutes - has a brief pause - and then kicks you in the face for a further two minutes after that! I cannot wait for this 12 minute finale!
===================================================================
"The Case". And the mad drumming begins!
===================================================================
"Copyboy". And here come the electric guitars. It sounds like there's 30.
Oh. There are.
===================================================================
Here comes the finale.
===================================================================
ORCHESTRA. EXPLODING.
Surprisingly it's more dramatic than I originally anticipated.
===================================================================
Nice. The last minute of the finale is a big drone-line echo of everything you've just heard.
Noooo, only one track left.
===================================================================
Ha, and the last cue is a big sweeping track with electric guitars and drums. Not like anything else in the score!!
===================================================================
Right I'm done. 78 minutes long, and I played the car chase cue twice. I don't actually feel that knackered as usual after listening to something that loud for that long. Pretty epic I must say so. I think the finale is a bit of a disappointment - there's so much loud stuff before it it can't really be topped. Easily the best Tyler score I've heard in a long time, and it ranks high in my top 5 scores of this year. I don't think it will be everyone's cup of tea, but if you want something that's going to blow up your speakers then make sure it's this.
And to think, there's another 30 minutes of music in the movie...holy s**t! -

Some very surprising dark / melodic writing in here with smooth string veil and subtle vocals that remind me of Dario Marianelli's refined Beyond the Gates (Shooting Dogs). Impressive on behalf of Tyler.
Totally agree. I was also surprised with the melodic / dramatic approach rather than action oriented. Now moving to Eagle Eye...Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

I absolutely loved the dramatic parts, really touching stuff and captivating nostalgic sound; the blend of subtle electronics with orchestra is top-notch in this one.
So, EAGLE EYE or Bangkok Dangerous? (p.s. i haven't heard the former yet, i am asking you)Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

It really depends on what mood you're in. Eagle Eye is seriously, seriously good. Much better than Bangkok imo. Listen to both and decide for yourself though, -

No, that was just Tyler pissing around. I have saved that as an MP3 if you want it though? This is more ethnic sounding stuff with electronics. And brass. Lots of brass.
And yes, a much more focussed AVPR if anything. -

Is it noisier than AVPR? I can only take about 10 minutes of that score then I have to switch to something else.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Hopefully it means it's not a noise fest!? Tyler's obviously a very talented musician but as a composer he's still yet to show me he has chops rather than the generic output on speed he usually produces.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I bought that one last week and I am REALLY looking forward to hear it.
NP: Towelhead Thomas Newman
An Itunes one. I love the more percussive side of this score. You can also find the coolest motif I've heard this year in the end title ( Jazira Maroun). Addictive and fun! Apart from that, you have your usual ambient meanderings. Not an essential Newman score but you can get buy that one cue online. -

It is a noise fest. But it's a lot easier to listen to than AVPR as it's got a lot more rhythm to it. -

God, Tyler is the probably the most self plagist composer since James Horner.
Give me Darkness Falls (This is a theme! ), Timeline or even AVP Requiem any day!

I fear I must to a great extent agree with Jordi.
While Tyler certainly delivers the goods in the adrenalin department, it's nothing we haven't heard several times before. I would kill for a proper theme rather than the same old "synth roar" speeding things along.
As far as this class of score goes, I still enjoy Jablonsky's Transformers the most, as at least it has a killer riff to play off (as evidenced in Skorponok).
I really had major hopes for Tyler after the excellent Children Of Dune (which I still love!), I though Bubba Ho-Tep was really well crafted and very clever, and I enjoyed the full-bodied, intense Tokyo Drift, but other than that there's not much that really gets regular plays from me.
NP: El Cid
Again?
