I am happy though 'cause as with every rule there's always exceptions; my gf for instance, agrees that the kind of woman presented in sex and the city are essentially 4 old miserable low-life hacks that try to fill the voids of their lives with commercialism and shiny crappy expensive things and of course via fucking anything that moves.
Hmmm....I like your girlfriend. Any sister?Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

You could ask, though, if SEX IN THE CITY is symptomatic of a general "attitude" among young women today or if it's actually instrumental in creating it. Egg and chicken and so on.I am extremely serious. -

I'd say it's far more symptomatic of the attitude (and maybe conductive in affirming and cementing it through mainstream media). Its roots, I would guess, are back in the early seventies, with loads of crosslinks between sexual liberty, the final control of reproduction, classic feminism and the rise of equal opportunity and the "immediate satisfaction" consumption market and state of mind.
I just lifted the Sex & The City example just because it's so strongly symptomatic.
Not because it's in any way the cause of this attitude.
I doubt very seriously whether a whole generation of women would be influenced that much by just one or two (very American) media expressions.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Don't put your hands on fire my friend; many women, especially in younger ages when still immature, often tend to form role-models based on the world around them and primarily the media (fashion, magazines, shows, series, movies, rom-books (if anyone reads any books these days) and people (teachers, parents and sadly girlfriends ) and later on in their lives juxtapose those with real experiences and reality; some quickly abandon the egoistical and self-centered role models often proposed by the afore-mentioned and the silly fluffy pink dreams for reality and others remain stuck forever. Certainly the media IS responsible for creating a part of some women ambitions and character, you can't really assume as simply as that that the media is a plain observer and doesn't in fact have its part in actually forming characters in the today's world; sadly.Love Maintitles. ...and only the enwrapment of those media phenomena is Americanized; the inside core (the expectations, the perfect male mate, the family and children of the whole hausfrau thingy vs starving-for-career and "independent" miserable lonely old chicks, the money, the presents, the commercialism etc) pretty much is universal.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -
- CommentTimeJul 7th 2010 edited
It's not universal at all, though. It's an extremely westernised way of looking at things, which would suggest that indeed the media do their part. But then neither of us is contesting that.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Well, commercialism and the american-influenced western way of living and thinking is sadly spreading fast these days. Europe is completely taken over anyway.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Sure. That's why I said western (in the sense of occidental).
But you'll find that expectations and attitudes in -say- India or Gambia are very different. (Not that these are without trouble, but I'm just sayin'...)'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

I could never be with a woman who can't accept that I'm a man. It's in my nature to look at other women. That doesn't mean I'll cheat or anything, just that I'm normal.

I don't think that's true. It depends pretty much on honest communication and having her understanding that I'm not perfect should be possible to explain. I think the crux of the matter is to be honest from the start. If she can't accept you for who you are, I don't think one can have a healthy relationship.
Of course I'm not advocating standing and overtly drooling at other women, as that would be disrespectful to the women and your partner. But looking can be done tastefully. It's of course also important to make sure that your partner doesn't feel insecure about you, that she understands that she's the one for you and that you find her beautiful.

Most girls I've met (apart from one crazy nut job) are fine with that sort of thing - at times even advocating it. Can't stand women/girls who get jealous and precious about these types of things. (It's probably something to do with the fact that I don't befriend 'girly girls'... they annoy the crap out of me.) -
