    Hi Kevin! Welcome back!
Yeah, I too seem to remember a Scarlet... something?
It wasn't a usual combination, like "Captain Scarlet" or "Scarlet Pimpernel", but something rather eccentric (ScarletDeath? Scarletwit? SOmething like that?). I'll try to remember (not that it matters much, obviously smile ).

  3. Nevermind, I think it was ScarletDreams. That makes more sense than Pimpernel...

'Ello! I've been lurking here quite some time, finally decided to join in and post! ^_^

My name's Christina, but you can call me Ed. (nick name, long story, haha) I'm hopelessly addicted to film music, and well, all sorts of music really... but scores and soundtracks are what I find myself hooked on the most. (Funny to think I was a full out metal head before listening to The Village by JNH a couple years ago. Everything changed after that, haha.) I play guitar (acoustic & electric), piano, and Irish tin/low whistle. I also love photography, reading, drawing, and speedcubing.

Favorite composers: James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer (I know, I know... Cardinal sin, right?), John Williams, Michael Giacchino, John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Patrick Doyle, Alexandre Desplat, and James Horner.

Anywho! Sorry for the long boring post. Glad to be here along side fellow addicts. :D

Welcome, Christina! Great list of favourite composers. And no, there's no reason to feel guilty for enjoying the amazing music of maestro Zimmer at all. Best wishes! beer

    Hi Edina, and welcome. wave

And let me be the first to echo Thor's sentiments of utter bafflement at the concept of speedcubing.
(I was tempted to respond I was more into slowglobing myself, but for reasons of aesthetics I decided against it).

Perhaps speedcubing is to solve rubik's cubes on time. Just guessing though. But I've seen some people solve those things incredibly fast, and it's always very impressive.

Actually, I think most people here are very impressed that you can speedcube. It would probably take me a year or more to ever solve one of those things.

What's your personal speedcubing record? If you say anything less than a week, I'll be mightily impressed.

  5. Welcome Christina, it is quite possible to listen to both film scores and metal... I can testify to that fact. But I do like many genres, basically if it has melody and structure I'm all for it.

And I do happen to kick on Metallica once in a while... punk

For the standard 3x3 my current best is 16.66 seconds, though I average around 21-24. It's not nearly as hard as people make it out to be, you simply learn a method of solving it and practice... a lot...

Definitely, I still listen to metal a lot, love it. I'm just not the same "metal rocks, everything else sucks" kind of person anymore BY FAR, haha.

Nice username btw, Dream Theater is amazing. ^_^

Christina, it's my turn too to welcome you aboard. I still listen to some good ol' metal myself, metallica, soulfly, machine head, the old and classics, slayer, my dying bride, paradise lost etc etc mostly pre-2000, but my cd collection back from my teenage years in Cyprus hold around 3000 metal cd's of all kinds which includes mostly stuff that i can't listen to anymore, like Norwegian black metal, marduk, mayhem, darkthrone and all, as well as death metal (morbid angel, cannibal corpse etc etc).

Anyway, film music and classical has me hooked for many years - due to profession as well as personal taste, and i don't see that changing; i am pretty happy with what film / tv / game music gives us!

    Cheers

oh and we want a photo wink

Yeah. Every single pound i had back then (teenage years and the army, every single salary i got as a kid) went to metal cd's. I absolutely loved that music.

But i am glad i never looked liked a stereotype metalhead smile
