Can you describe what kind of music Holbrooke's is Tom?

    NP: ORCHESTRAL WORKS (Aaron Copland)

A great 2CD set. Right now, we're into the "old American folk songs", which isn't my favourite part, but still. "El Salon Mexico" is up after that.
    I am extremely serious.

Tim I'm working on a review of the new CPO recording of 4 of his works. An overall impression to me is that he was born in the wrong century or he never figured out a way to get to Hollywood because his music fits the genre. The romantic theme of "The Vikings" reminded me of Wuthering Heights. If you didn't know Tchaikovsky and I told you it was one of his rare works you'd likely believe me.

I'm thinking that this might be one to publish at main titles also. It also has a wonderful 14+ minute symphonic variation of three blind mice.

NP: CONCERTO FOR HORN AND ORCHESTRA (John Williams)

There are hints of the suspense music in WAR OF THE WORLDS and MINORITY REPORT here, I think. Love the haunting opening movement.

NP: LA MER... Debussy. This is a recording that I got in the 60 CD package for $30.00. I think that the popularity in the classical world for Debussy is he has a more modern sound yet he is accessible. Beautiful piece.

It is indeed. Debussy seems to be very popular among the orchestral, classical-style film score fans.

I never heard it, and it seems by now obvious that the once promised recording by Clevenger and the CSO will never happen. slant

However, I do have the score reduction and the opening seems to be very atmospheric indeed. Distinctivlely in Williams hand, but I wish the notations would reveal what the instrumentation is at least once in a while! Most reductions do this, but for some unexplicable reason nobody has bothered to do this with any of Williams' publications. angry

    NP: SAMPLER (The Sparks)

Sparks are always very lyrics-heavy (little space for the music to shine), which isn't usually to my liking, but it's very catchy once you get used to it. Stuff like "Where did the groove go?" or when the groove finally DOES kick in in "Dick Around".
