Yeah, that's right up there with midnight jungle trekking!

And no, rain is NOT cool.
Palm trees and tropical sun are cool.
So are cocktails and pineapples and coconuts.

But you have both Malarone and DEET? Crazy! Malarone is not yet found to be resistant I thought (Lariam is though)?

Obviously Malarone isn't a repellant: it's an anti-malaria agent. And as fara s I know it's still effective.
It's DEET that's losing its sting (so to speak): in many tropical places the mosquitoes now just seem to be slightly annoyed by it rather than repelled. slant

I used malarone and deet in Kenya. Apart from the frightening expense of the former, no adverse effects.

Don't worry; I've lived for 5 years in Malaysia, been during that period on trips to Indonesia and I don't recall ever getting Malaria. It's so overrated among tourists. Yet, then again, I am of course not even remotely tasty.

Having roadblocks 'cause of the water in the middle of the rain season, however... not as much fun.

Malaria tablets ( can't remember which ones ) made my brain go weird so I threw them all away.

Martijn, have you looked into the areas you'll be visiting to assess the malarial risk?

I hope the driver is severely punished, here in the UK sentences for death by drunk or dangerous driving are no where near severe enough IMO.
