Pawel, I'd really like to hear what you think of JG's LEGEND?

NP: Ben-Hur - Miklos Rozsa - FSM Release

Oh my gosh! What an incredible remastering job!
Most of the time I can't believe this was recorded when it was! Sure the limitations of the day do show from time to time, but overall it sounds stunning!
This is quite an improvement on the Rhino release (and that was good!).
I've read people complain about the packaging being broken etc.
I'm grateful mine was all ok on arrival.
I'm very, very happy with the treatment of this masterpiece!
    Absolute soundtrack perfection.
    Well done FSM! cool

Today while working on a research, I listened to John Powell's Bourne trilogy in a row. I liked Supremacy the most so haven't heard other two for a while.

I don't know how to call it properly, but somehow I love the sound of violin "squeaking" (?)

NP: Tower Heist - Christophe Beck

Very enjoyable score. Very good in the movie as well. Kinda surprised to see him score a Brett Ratner film after having Lalo and Danny.

NP: LE CINEMA DE... (Georges Delerue)

The superb 6CD set. Wish I found a way to replace the black CD holders inside, which basically crumbled and fell out the minute I opened the package.
    I am extremely serious.

  4. Jerry Goldsmith - Legend

Beautiful and magical score. And it led Goldsmith to hate Ridley Scott, legendarily...

Great, great work. I love it.

I'm surprised that Goldsmith even took the job based on the mismanagement of his Alien score

  5. According to the liner notes to the Silva release, he loved the script, so he set everything aside.

The liner notes do get things wrong, because they say that Blade Runner is proof for his lack of decisive abilities regarding music, because it was temped with Planet of the Apes and Humanoids of the Deep and ended up with an electronic score...

The truth is that Blade Runner had Vangelis write music before shooting and some of the score was actually played on the set while filming and Ridley always knew he would hire Vangelis because of a piece called Memories of Green from a former album.

  6. That said, I do *not* intend to ever listen to whatever Tangerine Dream came up with for the film.

Filmmakers are allowed to experiment with music in the editing room. All manner of things probably get temped in along the way. And this is apparently evidence of indecisiveness towards music? Sometimes different versions of scenes are used through out editing -- is that indecisiveness? When a decision about a sound effect gets put off because they want to make the decision in the mix, is that indecisiveness?

Seems those who want their favourite composer to come out looking good will tell all manner of stories about a lack of craft or professionalism on the other side of the relationship.

  8. Well, that too. They wanted to make Goldsmith look great as opposed to the petty Ridley Scott, but hey, at least the music defends itself.

Nowhere near JG's effort IMO but you might be surprised to find yourself liking it Pawel, It's melodic and very accessable and as an album I like it.

I like some of Zimmer's power-antics but for me it all became wearisome very fast.

BERNARD HERRMANN would have done it better!

Zimmer himself regretted writing that cue, actually.

And didn't Herrmann or Rozsa write such a piece? For a sea monster?

    YESSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!

The 66 minute version or the complete score (only available as a gamerip)?

I can recommend the complete score, much more WOW !!!!

With the belated release of a CD version of this excellent score, there's more reason to be cheerful. Buy the score as a digital download at www.sumthing.com (http://www.sumthing.com/p/castlevania-lords-of-shadow/) and get an extra 40 minutes of music.
