Or how a dynamic recording such as this one can make music come alive, where before it was dead and flat I imagine.

The original one is what sounds alive to me.
Of course, I do appreciate the re-recording for its many merits and all the effort that went into it...I just wish it wouldn't hurt my brain lol.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I quite like it, but it's a bit all over the place.

    More than the first one?

Wonderful score, terrible sounding boot. I would love some label to remedy this! Maybe this time the North Estate will repond.

I like it less than the first one - because it's much more all over the place than the first one!

    NP: iTunes Christmas playlist

I just typed in 'christmas' in the search and got up all the tracks that had anything to do with Christmas in my collection. Pretty eclectic mix!
    I am extremely serious.

Managed up to the fifth cue. Does anything actually happen afterwards? 'Cause it didn't so far and turned it off.

  2. Not much more, no. The gypsy tracks are all too crazy, then come the source cues, two of them mauled by Hans, then some suspenseful underscore and a remix.

  3. That said, I like the whole Shadows trilogy and now I can say that I heard it both in demo form (in Hans' London studio) and recorded during the session.

It's just about in my top 10 James Horner scores, and that's a 'big up', it's a brilliant score but there are a few I enjoy much more.

    M:I Ghost Protocol Michael Giacchino

Ok. I have watched the movie. I must be the only person in the world (Oh no, marsel too) who found this movie boring.

Now, Giacchino's score, if you delete some tracks of your playlist is....FUC:king cool!

The new action motif is really adictive, specially as head in the uber cool track "out for a run". So you have a roughly 40 minutes of pure fun.

Too sad the mixing/recording or whatver is...so...I don't know. I don't like it. Erik is the expert in this issues. So maybe He can help me.

The Borrower Arrietty by Cécile Corbel

Ghibli scores are always great no matter who works on them. What makes this one more interesting though is that a French songwriter got the gig for an otherwise totally-Japanese flick, and I think she did really well here. It is also great to hear good music written for a small group of soloists instead of the usual symphony ensemble.

I've really been enjoying this since it arrived on Saturday, obviously it doesn't reach the dizzying heights of the original but it's a terrific performance of a fun score. And what a treat to get the score for the stage show rerecorded on disc 2, I think I'm enjoying this even more than disc 1.
