What does this one sound like in comparrison to his Conan film scores?

It blends in perfectly. It was written between BARBARIAN and DESTROYER and he obviously took some of this scoring over into DESTROYER.

I require something a little easier on the ears than all this Conan music...

Catch Me If You Can John Williams

After a day of Radio 1 where I work, this is like coming up for air.

    WORST. STATION. EVER!

Many moons ago when Conan was young I used to listen to Radio 1 ( I'll break that right here as it's starting to sound like an ode ), it was a must listen back then but in recent decades it's just a playlist for Simon Cowell's drivel etc.

I'd never realised just how truly awful modern popular music is until recently. Apart from hearing Radio 1 occasionally at work, I tend to do quite well at staying clear of 'pop music'.

I like Radio 2, and there is still some great popular music being produced....just not from the likes of Simon Cowell. I also like Stewart Maconie ( I think that's Radio 5? ) who plays a lot of really obscure stuff, of course, you have to take the good with the bad in that bag.

Thanks. That sounds great. I wonder what the rights for the music are? If it could be shoved on a second disc with Destroyer when Intrada releases that, or if it's got to be seperate.

  3. NP: Doctor Who - Series 6 - Murray Gold

Went straight to "The Majestic Tale (of A Madman In A Box)" (the last track). And it is great! I look forward to listening to the rest of this 2-CD release.

The Empire Strikes Back John Williams

I usually listen to the Anthology 1 disc version (with the superior sound), but the 2 disc version is ultimately a far more rewarding listen -- even with the lesser sound.

Even then they still lack the warmth of the Anthology album/s, unfortunately. Certainly nothing to stop me enjoying it, but the Anthology still has the best sound.

No... it doesn't. The best sound is actually the original LP release which then was released on a truncated CD. Out of all the Empire score releases the RCA Victor/Sony Special Edition releases contain the WORST sound and some f'd up reverse channel mixes!

Sounded like a perfectly reasonable explanation to me! (I admit I've never heard the LP versions, truncated or not.)

NP: The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey - Guy Farley

How is Guy Farley not doing more 'stuff' - ever since Cashback I have been a loyal fan, I wish he was a little more prolific that he currently is.

Had a major Goldsmith fix today (as I'm now on 3 weeks holiday!). cheesy

Outland - Atmospheric "off-world" classic in the vein of Alien.

Alien - Timeless gem superior to Outland that contains soooo many dark musical moments of brilliance!

The Great Train Robbery - This complete Intrada version sounds fantastic!

Gremlins - Wacky mode Goldsmith is in top form here. Very fun stuff!

Lionheart - Wonderful score from 1987. Edited from both volumes to one disc. So thematically rich!

Might have time for his glorious Star Trek : The Motion Picture if I'm lucky!

Do you mean the 2 LP version was truncated on a single CD?

I will never hear another cue as bone-tingling and epic as "Rectifier." It's the Imperial March of the 21st Century.
  5. The Help - Thomas Newman

This is one of those scores that grows on you after multiple listens. "Constantine" is especially lovely.

It's quite silent and behind the scenes in the movie, but on cd makes for a very good listen.

Gremlins is perhaps my favourite release of 2011. (Though there's probably a couple of others I'm forgetting.)
