    There was no commercial disk.

There was but it was an OST full of crappy songs. I do need that promo though!

    1. Independence Day
    3. Tomorrow Never Dies
    3. Stargate

I haven't heard Godzilla yet, so this is my top 3 Arnold for now.
  1. everybody picks here the obvious and absolutely mindblowing scores of Independence Day, Stargate and Godzilla, but I have to say that Last of the Dogmen is an equally brilliant score wink

Yes, there was, but there was no Arnold on it. I mistakenly assumed that there was a single score track on it.

    1st place: Godzilla / Stargate 19 points
2nd place: Independence Day 18 points

    Tomorrow Never Dies 12 points
The World Is Not Enough 4 points
Amazing Grace / Casino Royale / Die Another Day 2 points each

What, do you think I'm stupid? Of course, I know it's the same score. But as I said to TJ, when there is such a big difference in listening experience and pleasure, it could just as well have been something else. I'm not dismissing the score. I'm dismissing the LaLaLand presentation.

Well, I'm sorry, but it's not my fault that C&C releases keep pouring out on the market, and when a score is released in that format that I have a connection to, you can bet your ass I'm going to comment on it, predictable or not.

Don't punish the composer or the score for a terrible CD presentation which is what you are doing.

Yes...BUUUUUT the Poll was for BEST SCORE. Not BEST CD PRESENTATION or BEST CD RELEASE. So I don't see the reason why one needs to specify which cd release or what not---any film he scored was game, including those which never had any release---hell you listed one, "Shaft".

I think you are overthinking the question, then again maybe I am overthinking your responses. :D

Huh? How so? You DID see that I put this score among my top three Arnold favourites, right? David Arnold is best! GODZILLA as a score rocks! LaLaLand's presentation, however, does not. Can I make it any clearer? That I said it could "just as well have been a different score" because the 2CD release often ends up in displeasure while the old promo thing always ended up in pure pleasure was an indirect criticism of the presentation, not the music itself. Geezes. It was just a rhetorical phrasing.

That's why I asked earlier if we're talking soundtrack albums or how they work in the film. I can't remember who replied, but I think it was specified that we're talking soundtrack ALBUMS here, and that is reflected in my list. The SHAFT score was released as a promo and consequently qualifies as an album (heck, even a BOOTLEG would qualify as an album if no other release existed).

Holy crap... if I had foreseen this...

Guys, I´ve no idea whether you should vote about a score´s effect on the film, the soundtrack album, the complete presentation or the 30 sec audio clips from amazon. I think what´s behind the Top Three is in a much simpler way very obvious: Do you like what David Arnold wrote for Godzilla or not?!? And do you like that more or less than other works by him. I never specified that because I didn´t think I would have to. It all comes down to the question whether a specific part of the score that you like is really less likable just because there is MORE music from the movie somewhere else... If there´s a track that I think is the fucking best five minutes ever written I won´t say it´s shit just because there are 40 uninteresting minutes around it.

Well, to me it's an important distinction because my top three score list from any composer would in most cases look totally different depending on if we talked album or film. But after that earlier response, I have decided to make my lists based SOLELY on the soundtrack album experience, and I don't really care what anyone else does.

PS - The complete 2CD release of Godzilla by La La Land Records is nothing but brilliant! Blows that old "promo" out of the water.

Well, in that case, he is to be blamed too. However, I seem to remember reading an interview somewhere that he didn't really get the fans' desire to get the score in C&C format and that he - like most composers - prefer to arrange albums for listening, but that he caved in to popular demand in this case. Anyone else remember the interview?

Found it! It was right here at maintitles.net:

"I was disappointed when it didn’t get released and I’d have preferred it if it had come out at the time when the film came out. I still don’t really know why it didn’t, but it is fantastic it got released 10 years later! It is incredibly long! I can’t even remember writing half of that stuff but it’s a huge amount of music! I could never listen to it in one go, but sure it’s good for the people who are kind of collectors and the fans of film music to have everything, and it is pretty much everything, everything that was ever recorded is on that CD"
