The weather is miserable here, so I think I'm going to go for a short run and then watch The Dark Knight.

Sorry to hear about the weather Antony. The Dark Knight though is a very good choice!
Change of plans for me too. No drinks but cinema. I'm off to watch "Public Enemies". I'll tell you 2morrow!

    Enjoy!

I have a backlog of movies as well, and as there's nobody doing much tonight to latch on to (don't feel much like drinking tonight anyway) I might as wel catch up. There was some flick about Nazi zombies I was undying to see...

The film was very good. The performances were excellent, Depp absolutely in his element! I didn't like the fact that in many instances Mann uses a one camera shot which gave you the impression of a home video. The atmosphere was very carefully recreated and as for the score... Goldenthal baby, Goldenthal!!! I don't need to say more!!!! punk

    Gorgeous? Hmm,
'JOHN DILLINGER DIES'
is really the only track I'd describe as 'gorgeous' (I'd use another word though). The rest of the score -of what little there is- is far too downtrodden and heavy to be described as gorgeous IMO.

Personally I'd describe it as very-good-but-not-enough.

Well, yeah... but gorgeous? Again the one track maybe, but the rest is either dark and heavy character scoring, or the odd action track - and not a lot of it. I'd use all sorts of positive adjectives to describe this score, don't get me wrong (I too believe in Goldenthal's divinity)... but 'gorgeous' would not be one of them. Agnes of God by Delerue is gorgeous! (For a random example comparison.)

It's very impressive how Goldenthal can hold so much emotion with such contained musical packages whilst other composers are drown in their own musical babble.

Absolutely. But the thing with Public Enemies is I'm more happy about the fact that he's working on films again rather than the actual score itself. I was hoping it would be the other way round, but I'm not too worried because I'm hoping he gets more projects... ones that allow him to flex his composing muscles a little bit more than this film.

Mystic Steven says Steven won't. Mostly because he's not in a pool contest, but partly because he sucks.

    Good luck. Again.
