Sorry to hear that, Tim. Surely there will be other places that have quizzes if the new management doesn't continue the tradition?
Oh, absolutely! To be totally honest it's not really my kind of quiz anyway, enjoyable though it was it was very modern music oriented ( read: latest chart stuff ), enjoyable and challenging with sound and picture rounds and sometimes even film music rounds but the main thing ( besides winning, of course
) was enjoying the banter with other teams we got to know and being with friends.
Because it was local and I always walked to the quiz I never even thought about the fact that one of my best friends that always turns up doesn't drink alcohol, we have a big quiz that takes place in the city centre already marked out ( it's general knowledge etc that is much more my thing....less so my fellow quiz companions ) and my mate is totally up for picking us up and driving us there, we will of course be giving a sub towards his petrol costs.
...on the downside my up to date pop music knowledge will get stilted at March 2012
Me and the team hit town last night for a quiz night and came out the winners!
Pretty tough quiz too, best of all was overhearing a guy at the bar saying that they always clean up when they play this particular quiz and his mate saying he was looking forward to the cash as he was "broke" ( but buying pints ), they had this in the bag before it had even begun
, a shame they weren't sat near us because I'd love to have seen their faces when the final scores were read out, it wasn't even close, we were 8 points clear at the top

I do wonder, Tim...how would you do 'solo' in, say, a game of Trivial Pursuit? Is it the team effort (with each one having their specialty field) that grants you the successes?I am extremely serious. -

I'm very good at Trivial Pursuit ( haven't played it for years now though I still have a set ) but I always found it difficult to get the orange cheese.
Last nights quiz was split like this...
Current affairs - everyone did their bit.
A movie round - two of us did this round.
A picture round ( dingbats....you'll have to look it up )
Geography - I'm strong on this but everyone put their bit in.
General Knowledge - ditto
Live played music round - I'm normally very good at this but it was the other three who filled this one in.
To answer your question, yes. It's very much team effort that grants our success. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Tim, do you find that knowing a bit about film music helps with the movie rounds?
Personally, I know quite a bit of trivia for little-known films because of the interest in the music for those films. You can't help but pick up additional information like characters, actors, directors, etc.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

100% spot on Alan, I wouldn't be half as good at film without the film music, knowing stuff I haven't even seen purely because I own the soundtrack. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

The orange is sport so unless the question is boxing or snooker related then I'm stuffed.
I wonder how the Norwegian version differs in it's questions? As an example I'd bet there are no snooker questions in the Norwegian board game.
though the chinese version would have plenty i wouldn't be able to read it anyway

The orange 'cake' isn't only about sports, though. Also 'leisure' activities like, say, types of wine.
I doubt there are a lot of snooker questions in our version. At most big names like Ronnie O'Sullivan.I am extremely serious. -

What are everyone's plans tonight?
I'm home alone in my parents' 1800's house (where Henrik Ibsen occasionally had a drink back in the day), and have invited some friends over for a gathering later. I'll also host a quiz, which is customary in Norway around Easter time. I've asked the others to provide some questions, but mine is about Norwegian kiddie shows from our common childhood in the late 70's and 80's (I'll play the intros from youtube and ask them to identify them). Maybe it's childish, but I thought it was a kinda neat idea.I am extremely serious. -

This weekend, I was part of a team of cooks (we were five) to make the meals for 80 children and their coaches of the youth movement. I'm not sure if youth movement is clear to what I mean? We have several of them in Belgium. They organise activities for children to young adults every week in the weekend. Now and then they change location from local town to a weekend at some camp base.
We did the cooking for 15-16 years olds. The cooking team were all good friends of mine, and the coaches were a really good group I must say. Two full lunches, two full dinners and two breakfast are quite a task. Even though it was very intense and there was rarely time for a break, I enjoyed this all very much. The "kids" are very respectful for the cooks and always help cleaning up afterwards, giving us time to eat the leftovers.
In the evening there was a little time for a beer, but we had to get up early so I didn't get much sleep.
The theme of the camp was Pokémon, so it comes as no surprise we made Pitachu (pita meat with Turkish bread and vegetables), Tangela (blue spaghetti with our own bolognaise sauce) and some other themed meals I forgot the name; One time, the leading coaches gave us a Picachu clothing, so now I'm on a silly picture wearing yellow clothers, big ears and a lightning tail.

With your track record of always seeming extremely drunk on every picture, I wonder what that would look like.
