Space Rock!? It's very ecclectic and not as wishy-washy as "new age".

Sorry to go off topic here (at MT of all places), but what exactly is the correct way to say that phrase? Is it 'peeked', 'peaked' or 'piqued'? I tend to assume now that it's the latter... but am I wrong? -

NP: TALK (Yes)
90's Yes is not as interesting as their 70's stuff, of course, but it has some pretty nice songs overall, especially the Trevor Rabin anthem "I'll be Waiting" and "Walls" co-written by Supertramper Roger Hodgson.
There was a great late night program I watched the other night all about prog Rock featuring Yes, Genesis, Supertramp, ELP, Jethro Tull, Mike Oldfield and others. YES and ELP seemed to be the epitomy of excess.
Nice! Remember what it was called?
'fraid not.
It was on BBC 3 or 4 on the cabel channels. I don't know if it'll be any help to you but I'll let you know when it's repeated.

NP : CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS - Camille Saint-Saens
A wonderful work that I'm sure most here will be familiar with, each short piece being musically desciptive of a particular animal...elephant, lion, tortoise, wolverine etc etc.
Very enjoyable and relaxing for a Sunday afternoon.

Tubular Bells II - Mike Oldfield
Hmmmm?
I need to look up the story behind this "sequel". It's vastly different inn tone than its predecessor. More lightweight and mainstream-sounding, it seems. Upbeat, even. Optimistic.
What a strange bedfellow to the dark, brooding original.
Still, it's very enjoyable (I do appreciate a good concept album), but just not at all what I was expecting.
I found out there's a Tubular Bells III as well.
Very curious to hear what direction that one will take.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Tubular Bells III is a great listen and IMO far better than T II. I must admit that my view may be influenced by the fact I bought TIII in Katmandu and it became part of my soundtrack to one of my journeys in Nepal. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Be A Man - Macho Man Randy Savage
In my younger teenage years I discovered through the magic of an up and coming SKY channel, the spectacle of American wrestling through broadcasts of the World Wrestling Federation.
I was mesmerised by these Battles of the Titans. Never before had I seen a sport where such harrowing, intense battle was done between such clear definitions of the forces of Good and Evil, with such prowess and physical strength and stamina! I cried for fallen heroes and I hated their foes with a passion.
Of course much later I found out that almost everything in American wrestling is scripted: the good vs. evil storylines worked out well in advance, and the more risky matches rehearsed most carefully to allow for the best entertainment. (it didn't matter: from that day I simply enjoyed the "storylines" as I would those of any superhero cartoon, and regarded the wrestlers as very prolific, highly trained acrobats and athletes, only increasing my admiration of their skills).
In those days, and I'm talking the early Eighties here, there were such legends as the immortal and unbeatable Hulk Hogan (lately fallen on rough times), the eighth wonder of the world Andre the Giant (probably best known to readers here as the giant Fezzik in The Princess Bride), the despicable Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, and many, many more.
But one of the most outstanding, outrageous and outspoken characters was that of The Macho Man Randy Savage, probably best known to menmbers of the forum here as the voice of Rasslor in the Dial M For Monkey cartoon, or his portrayal of 'Bonesaw' McGraw in the Spiderman movie).
Flamboyant, eccentric and loud, he was one of the best loved -and most hated- characters in wrestling, who never ever failed to deliver a top notch performance and display a truly awesome array of skill, talent and power (to this day fans, wrestlers and critics alike cite his match with Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat in Wrestlemania III as the best wrestling match in history).
So he decided to take it one further and in 2003 released a hip-hop rap album.
A. Rap. Album.
To be fair, the choice of 'music' style on Be A Man isn't that odd (if you clicked the link above it's pretty hard to fail to notice that Macho Man's voice sounds not unlike a buzzsaw cutting through a blackboard reinforced by a metal grate), but God Almighty...this is bad.
The beats can never decide whether they're R&B, rock, or simply eighties' throwbacks, the backing vocals are girly, there's no flow and the songs are just... Well...
awful.
Let me hit you with some of the wonderful poetry in the album's eponymous track (a diss on wrestling colleague/foe Hulk Hogan):
Hot diggity damn Hulk I'm glad you set it off (set if off)
Used to be hard Hulk, now ya done turned soft
Doin' telephone commercials I seen ya
Dancin' in tights as a ballerina
I knew all along you had those tendencies
Cuz you've been runnin' from Macho like I got a disease
Dude please, your pay-per-view event was a joke
You're avoidin' Randy Savage cuz you know you'll get smoked
Think that's bad?
How's this? (from the track Perfect Friend, a tribute to fellow wrestler, the late Curt "Mr. Perfect" Henning, who died of steroid abuse, painkillers and a cocaine OD...)
He brightened up a locker room (you know I'm missin' you (missin' you)
He made the time go by (how much you'll never know (never know)
He had personality (deep in our hearts we'll never ever forget you)
Gregarious, not shy
He really was perfection
But now he's gone away
We're lucky to have known him
And we'll miss him everyday
Mr. Perfect
It truly brings a tear to the eye...
This is one of the most awful CDs I have ever heard.
The text is bad.
The music is bad.
The rhythm is bad.
The performance is bad.
The production is bad.
The idea is bad.
It's so bad it almost makes Michael Jackson look Bad in comparison.
It's a novelty album gone off the rails. A great album to have in your cupboard as a conversation piece, but not to listen to.
Like, EVER.
