I agree on his brilliance, but only Tchaikovsky though? What about Jean Sibelius? Or Borodin or Mussorgsky? (among others)Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Oh absolutely. Fear not for I am not deliberately making any "huge omissions" (
), there are MANY classical composers which I worship. Vaughan Williams on an equal footing with the T man!

Tchaikovsky was my first love of "serious" music, of course, as a youngster it only included all of his most popular works. I didn't 'discover' Vaughan Williams until my late teens.
For the shear number of great composers the Russians definitely rule!On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

From the sacred to the profane...
Just finished listening to Don Ellis's Live at Monterey! album.
Now listening to Yanni's Live at the Acropolis album.
It must bring pride to the heart of every Greek to know that when people from Australia think of the Greek contribution to modern music, they think of Yanni.

Artificial Animals Riding On Neverland - AaRON
Portishead meets Pink Floyd in a rather more upbeat mood, is the best way to describe this relatively new band. Saw them on the Crossing Boundaries program (presented by Jools Holland) and was really quite taken with their specific, recognisable sound. Lots of off-beat electronics, but very interesting and very listenable. Good lyrics too!'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Symphony No. 5 Tchaikovsky
Almost as good as No. 6. (Which, trust me, is saying A LOT.)
6 is superior to 5 Steven. If you read about Tchaikovsky you'll find his favorite was 4 which I really debate back and forth between.listen to more classical music! -

I wouldn't say 'superior' because I wouldn't know where to begin in explaining why. But I prefer 6 to 5. -

Brilliant jazz/rock fusion album with a superlative line up of great musicians such as John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, George Duke and Chic Corea.
