NP: Les Misérables (Complete Symphonic Recording) - Claude-Michel Schönberg

    "One day more!" punk
  2. "One daaaaaaaayy mooooooorreeeee!"

    Damn it William! crazy wink

    NP: Symphony 8 (Philip Glass)

By some measure, the greatest of the second half of his symphony output. The others get a bit bogged down in their gimmicks, like the Allen Ginsberg poetry (symphony 6), the creation of the world texts (symphony 5), and the Toltec-themed Symphony 7.

NP: SYMPHONY IN D MINOR.....Bruno Walter Long before he became a world class conductor he was first and foremost a composer. The work is quite heavy but well developed. It is more in the style of Mahler or Bruckner.

Well, not really playing, but playing Clint Mansell - Together We Will Live Forever on my piano. I expected it to be a bit tougher, but i'm already at a semi-fluent playthrough after 10 tries. Must be because it's one of my favourite tracks ever written.

I just got the 30 CD Chandos set in the mail. Quite a bargain for $54.00. It is in celebration of their 30 year anniversary.

Well, I guess the topic is now playing...

I´m practicing Chopin´s Ballade nr. 2 in F-major (opus 38) for a concert on the 14th, and am strangely enough not struggling as much with the technical challenges as the simple opening bars - with its enchanting theme. Its so darn hard to achieve good keyboard sound!

NP : STARS END - David Bedford

Superb orchestral work, very minimalist with a fantastic, orgasmic guitar build up in the middle section courtesy of Mike Oldfield, repeated listens reveal amazing complexities that make the whole thing strangely satisfying.

Yes I did Tom, it looks like a fantastic set. I'll be very interested in your view of Harty's 'An Irish Symphony' which I have never heard.

When I think that we sometimes pay $30.00 for a two CD set for every recorded note of a soundtrack and this is $53.00 for 30 CD's it makes me ponder a bit.

    NP:BRAZILIAN IMPRESSIONS....OTTORINO RESPIGHI

A work that I've heard before but paid little attention to. Written toward the end of his life (he died at 57) the suite is one that deserves more attention than it has gotten. Of special interest is the nearly 5 minute section about the snake garden. There is a playing of the "Dies Irae" in a grim horror like fashion.
