They need to bring comedians back to host. Jackman was good, but aside from the hilarious opening, anyone could have done the rest. Ellen DeGeneres two years ago was fantastic.
The awards were pretty boring...it's not fun to watch when all the awards go to about 5 different films. Why don't the fun popcorn films of the year get nominated? Why is it always something dramatic or something that has "meaning"?
Anne Hathaway is officially the most beautiful woman on the planet!
Michael Giacchino...looks strange without facial hair. His little wave when Jackman mentioned him was cool. You couldn't really do much with the music to be honest (what was with all The Big Country?). I did like the little inclusion of "Roar!" though over the action bit with Will Smith. And does anyone know if he wrote the new Oscar "theme"? (It sounded like him (very "dry"), but I really couldn't tell.)
Anyway...bring on the POPCORN films of 2009! -

Surely Steven won't be the only one to disagree. He may have strange views on most things, but on this subject we would be completely in agreement. -

What music was played for the 'In Memorium' section?
Queen Latifah did a very soulful, traditional version of "I'll be seeing you" -

I didn't watch, didn't watch the Oscars for ages. Populist nonsense. They award nonsense scores over far superior efforts. Only because the movie is "in", what about true great scores for shit movies or for movies that are not awarded for any other category, but its still a great score afterall. Doesn't it deserve an award? I will watch the oscars again when they really know what they are doing. Therefore I don't give a shit about the Oscars, because it stands for nothing but bad taste. (in most cases) The last great Oscar show was somewhere in the early '90's when they celebrated 100 years of motion pictures... it had a great opening song and dance etc. "Life, captured on film, one hundred years of emotions on film" something like that it went.
Here is one of the rare occassions, that they awarded someone who really deserved it though:

Shouldn't it be truly great, if they awarded scores like these as well?:
James Horner's score for Krull.
Jerry Goldsmith for Night Crossing
Jerry Goldsmith for Total Recall
Raiders, Temple, Last Crusade etc. etc.

The "In Memorium" list is always a sham at the oscars. TCM does it right. The oscars list left off George Carlin, Robert Prosky, Eartha Kitt, Patrick McGoohan etc etc etc. They do this every year.I'm your Piper at the gates of dawn. -

I wasn't at all surprised that A.R. Rahman won either. It's seems like often the newbie wins anyway. I was disappointed that Thomas Newman lost again. I'm glad he doesn't get discouraged and keeps giving us beautiful scores for great films. -

I don't care about the Oscars at all because it is ridiculous, but I'd still like to congratulate Kate Winslet for finally receiving an Oscar.
