William have you hit the lottery ?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. A couple of promising titles after yesterday's disappointing Beltrami effort:

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Grant Kirkhope

There Be Dragons: Secretos de Pasión - Robert Folk
This one has the potential to be one of the best scores of 2012. Grand orchestra, choir as well as more intimate Spanish-flavoured acoustic guitar. It's a definite "sit up and take note" score even on a first listen.

What do you think of Reckoning? I just got it. Haven't listened yet, but I love Grant's 2 other recent scores (Viva Piñana and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts)
  2. My recent purchases / gifts

The best of Cinema Music - Joe Hisaishi (on the cover of this Album a picture of the concert in Krakow where I was, just sitting just a row behind the last row that is seen on the cover smile Although the registration of the concert was in Honk Kong)
Batman Forever (2CD) - Elliot Goldenthal
    The Lady - Eric Serra
    The Artist - Ludovic Bource
    Ocean's Twelve - David Holmes
Süskind - Bob Zimmerman, Nando Eweg
    Clockwise - Maciek Dobrowolski

    Here my complete score collection
That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

It is awesome. Here's what i wrote a couple of days back in other places:

"Prepare an open Jaw for when you first listen Grant Kirkhope's score for KINGDOM OF AMALUR: RECKONING." (...) "this fully symphonic and thoroughly orchestral score is going to blow your mind off! A Must-have!" Especially the cue "the fight".

    MAJOR haul today! love

Purchased second hand from an esteemed member of this very forum

    - Aliens - James Horner
I didn't have this one yet! shocked

    - Willow - James Horner
...nor this one, but the score to Willow never was very dear to me. Happy to give it another go, though.

    - Rebecca - Franz Waxman (McNeely rerecording)
Found a renewed interest in and appreciation of Waxman following the Gerhardt recordings. So let's see if this hits home!

    - Sunset Boulevard - Franz Waxman (McNeely rerecording)
Same as the above. Let us hear what we shall hear.

    - Shaft - David Arnold
    Total coolness. cool

    - Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid - Burt Bacharach
Never cared much for the famous song, but I'm very curious to hear what the entire score sounds like.

    - The Adventures Of Mark Twain / The Prince And The Pauper - Steiner/Korngold (Stromberg rerecording)
Oops. This may have been a mis-buy: I actually already own Stromberg's rerecording of the Steiner score. But The Prince And The Pauper is a score I am totally unfamiliar with.

    - Bose, The Forgotten Hero - A.R. Rahman
Got some very good reviews...and if the singing is kept to an ABSOLUTE minimum, I *love* that "Indian sound"!

    - Orchestral Film Music Of Michael J. Lewis
I love his work on that wonderful film Theatre Of Blood, so I am quite keen to see what else may be in store!

    - The Thomas Crown Affair - Michel Legrand
Only recently became acquainted with this score (although the famous theme is of course a classic!). Much more haunting than I'd ever thought! Very pleased to own this one now!

    - Predator 2 - Alan Silvestri
    Excellent Silvestri action stuff! cool

    - Miami Vice - various artists
Oops. A sure mis-buy. I thought it was solely the Jan Hammer work, but in fact it's one of those TV series samplers with a load of eigthies songs tacked on. Oh well.

    From the Russian KMR label:
    - Merlin's Apparentive - Lawrence Shragge
NO idea what this is, but the samples on the site sure were impressive!

    - Galactic Assault: Prisoner Of Power (game score) - Sergey Khemelevsky
Read some good reviews on this soundtrack, and sure enough: the preview tracks promise powerchord dynamite!

    - The Salamander Key - Yuri Poteyenko
Poteyenko is pretty much a blind buy for me these days, ever since his work on Sea Dogs. Fantastic "old school" composer with a great sense of flair and melody!

    From various other sources:
    - Batman: Arkham City (game score) - Nick Arundel
Read some really good reviews on this score, as it seem sto be very moody and gothic. We'll see!

    - Deus Ex: Human Revolution (game score) - Michael McCann
Again: some glowing reviews made me check this out.

    - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - Thomas Newman
As I said above, I love that "Indian sound", and this CD has that. In spades!!

    - The Masque Of The Red Death - David Lee
Hmmm...got this solely based on the fact that I think it's one of the greatest Corman/Poe/Price movies EVER...but I can't remember a thing about the score. Bit apprehensive now... dizzy

    - Satyricon - Nino Rota
    I don't know the film...but it's Rota!

    - Casino Royale (50th anniversary deluxe edition) - Burt Bacharach
Yeah. slant Third buy. And I hope THIS will be the mix where those TERRIBLE distortions on the previous releases are fixed. If not, I give up. Then the score needs a rerecording.

    - Ben-Hur (the 5 CD FSM release) - Miklos Rozsa
So I caved. shame What? Oh, like YOU're so perfect? angry
Main reason: it has two vinyl recordings I don't own yet (but have heard ina distant past), which -I hope, as I'm going by memory- may include the most exciting version of Rowing Of The Galley Slaves EVER!

    - Sir Gawain And The Green Knight - Ron Goodwin
The wonderfully exciting preview tracks won me over instantly. This is the one I'm looking most forward to hearing!

    - 55 Days In Peking - Dimitri Tiomkin
The preview tracks were SO much better than I remembered the score to be in the film! Hope it's not a disappointment.

    Wow, massive haul. Thumbs up!

Sorry to hear there were a couple of misses for you in there. I think the MV song/score album is good as it is, but the score-only 2CD set (which I own and will never sell!) is even more of a treasure, for sure. It goes for hundreds of bucks on the second-hand market, though, so kinda hard to find.

The TWAIN/PAUPER album has its major highlight in the PAUPER score, so no worries (especially the superb 'Duel' track).
    I am extremely serious.

p.s. I think there's something a bit genius in Bacharach's scoring of BCATSK, I think it works like a dream though I could do without the famous song.

I think there's a bit of genius on Bacharach at any rate, but I'm glad I have more of his now then just seventeen versions of Casino Royale (as good as that is).

  6. Some good choices there Martijn. I'd be interested to hear your comments on the KMR titles you picked up.

For me, today's arrival is Bernard Herrmann's It's Alive. I've had the sequel - It's Alive II - for a while and I listen to it occasionally. But hearing the original is great. I don't mind the below-par sonics of the recording - it sounds a bit like a score from 1944 rather than a score from 1974!

  7. The new batch of scores I got after I won the TV show recently, three of them will come to me next week:

Harry Gregson-Williams - Kingdom of Heaven
Elliot Goldenthal et al. - Heat
John Williams - Memoirs of a Geisha
John Williams - ET (Anniversary Edition)
    John Powell - Bourne Ultimatum

ET and Bourne were in the mail today, the rest will come early next week and I am looking forward to unwrap the package and listen to the scores I actually do know (I know all of them).

Earlier this month I ordered Speed 2: Cruise Control from La-La Land and I am really happy to have it in my own collection, which is slowly getting to actually make sense.

  8. For purely statistical and trivia purposes:

Kingdom of Heaven and Heat are the first entries for Gregson-Williams and Goldenthal respectively, though I do not intend to own any more scores by Gregson-Williams, maybe I will consider Spy Game one day.

John Powell is the first solo John Powell in my collection, outside of that I have AntZ (with Gregson-Williams) and both Kung Fu Panda scores, one of which I got for free (the second one to be precise).

A major lack in my John Williams scores is the new Star Wars trilogy, but I do intend to amend this.

Excellent batch, Pawel! Except maybe for KINGDOM OF HEAVEN...I don't like Harry Gregson-Williams.
    I am extremely serious.
  10. My most recent order batch, some shipped, some should come tomorrow.

Mark Mancina - Bad Boys (the LLL release)
Jerry Goldsmith - Rambo 2 (Silva)
Jerry Goldsmith - Papillon (the 45-minute expanded)
    Michael Giacchino - The Incredibles
    Thomas Newman - American Beauty

The Kingdom of Heaven/Heat/Memoirs of a Geisha is already awaiting me today.
