Sensational is what it's like. Wow.
  1. On top of the recent Bernard Herrmann Varese CD Club release I've gone for a couple of others:

    The Bible - Toshirô Mayuzumi
Moses The Lawgiver - Ennio Morricone

  2. I came across a couple of good scores from Bruno Coulais - Le Deuxième Souffle and La Rivière Espérance.

I had never heard of them until yesterday but I am quite liking them.

  3. On the film music festival in bargain prices

    Joe Hisaishi - Princess Mononoke
Ennio Morricone - The Mission (FINALLY)
Basil Poledouris - Hunt for the Red October

    Also:

Medal of Honor box set came to me in Krakow. Got it by having a deal with a friend.

  4. I picked up a release entitled "Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy" that features three suites composed by Walter Scharf. I am not entirely sure what the suites are from - are they later later retrospective films of Lloyd original films?

Anyway, they are an entertaining change.

They used to show this show on BBC 2 years ago ( late 70's-early 80's ), it was made up of all the best bits, stunts etc with Scharf's score, really good, fun music as I remember.

On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt
  5. Filling in some gaps and replacing some cdrs.

Let the Right One In - Soderqvist
    Big Fish - Elfman
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Shore
    Batman - Elfman
    I Am Legend - JNH
The Truman Show - Dallwitz et al.
    Sense and Sensibility - Doyle

I'll probably buy another couple soon. I'm thinking about Kitaro's Heaven and Earth, Elfman's S.O.P., Cantelon's Other Boleyn Girl or Hishaishi's Ponyo. Anybody like any of those?

    Great batch, christopher!

Do indeed pick up Elfman's SOP. Brilliant score that would appeal to fans of Philipp Glass, among other things. I've been trying to sell this in to Timmer for ages, but I don't think he has checked it out yet.
    I am extremely serious.

I haven't but it's still in my 'must get' note book, I seriously liked what I heard listening to a suite on youtube.

    Copernicus' Star - Abel Korzeniowski
I really, really like this little gem of a score
    SOCOM4 - Greg McCreary
I liked what I heard in samples. Pretty rough and aggressive. Looking forward to trying it in full even if I wonder whether it'll hold up for 2 CDs.
    Breakdown - Basil Poledouris
Interesting 3 CD set gives a good idea of the progression of a concept to a film score, but as a stand-alone listen leaves a little to be desired.
    White Lion - Philip Miller
    LOVED the samples on MovieScoreMedia!
    Testament - James Horner
Again, the samples blew me away! Sounds like old-skool Horner!
Classic Film Scores For Errol Flynn - Charles Gerhardt & The NPO
I'm slowly (re)building my Gerhardt collection now that the inexpensive remastered editions are out! smile

    Still to come in:
Battle Beyond The Stars - James Horner
Didn't have it. Will now. smile
    Yellowstone - Bill Conti
    Apparently this is really good?
Trinity And Beyond - William T. Stromberg & John Morgan
    At a leap of faith
Atomic Journeys / Nukes In Space - William T. Stromberg & John Morgan
    At a leap of faith
Le Bon Plaisir - Georges Delerue
The samples sent shivers down my spine
Comment les séduire • Les Strip-teaseuses • Les Combinards - François de Roubaix
Sounded like wonderful early seventies jazz-pop fun!

    Additionally
    Jerry Goldsmith's Masada
And Charles Gerhardt's The Classic Scores Of Alfred Newman, The Classic Scores Of Erich Wolfgang Korngold and The Classic Scores Of Dimitri Tiomkin
But it seems that package may have gotten lost. sad
Let's try and not get with the negative waves, Moriarty, and think positive, righteous thoughts.

You will NOT be disappointed! It's an old fashion Golden Age styled score. Big themes, huge choral moments and a lot of Herrmannesque influences. The dynamic recording with the Moscow Symphony is one of the finest I've heard. The ferocious "Hiroshima/Nagasaki Requiem" is the highlight of the score.

    Hated it!

  11. Is this a bargain? 79p for 16 minutes of Basil Poledouris' Conan: A Sword and Sorcery Spectacular? I just spotted this OST digital release and decided to go for it. I haven't heard it before.
