  1. Shane black will write & direct the much un-needed "Iron Man 3: Iron Harder, DAMNIT!". Okay, obviously part of that name is made up...

Anyway, he's directed one film only: "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" (remake)

So, looks like we could end up with yet ... another Ottman superhero film.

A movie has rarely made me feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life more than Iron Man 2 did....
But apparently it can get worse shocked

It can get lots worse, I saw REQUIEM FOR A DREAM a couple of weeks ago and I've rarely seen a more miserable, convoluted, pretentious piece of tosh.

The re-watch value of a film is not directly linked to its true value wink It's a great milestone of a film. Shows the paranoia and abuse of the world of substances like no other. The shithole they sink themselves into...i know people who were as bad.

I know them too D and I don't need it in my face. This film was so bloody pretentious and predictable, I hated it.

Oh, most definitely. My students are going crazy each semester with Babel, especially the 2 kids over the windy mountains scenes, the helicopter scene, the club scene (amazing) and the ending.

could be, because if anyone thinks this is 5 stars, then it must be John Ottman himself wink

There's more skill and invention on display in any given minute of the Jack the Giant Killer score than you'll find in something like the mindlessly derivative Oblivion, for example.

  6. I can see both David and Demetris' points here. Jack the Giant Slayer has a huge level of creativity and orchestrational detail in it. On the other hand, it also has huge issues with thematic continuity and a seeming inability to let the music play cohesively for more than thirty seconds at a time. Oblivion is massively derivative and no masterclass of composition, but it does present a lot of very fluid and enjoyable music.

I have my problems with Ottman, but D, you make him sound MUCH worse than he really is...

D, we may want to take this off mb and into private chat, but remind me -- what do you teach? (Sounds a bit like a course I do.)

Earlier this spring, composer John Ottman was at the Newman Scoring Stage at Fox to the record his score for the highly anticipated superhero film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film, which is the eighth that Ottman has scored (and edited) for director Bryan Singer, grossed a whopping $170 million worldwide when it opened this past weekend. ScoringSessions.com is thrilled to bring our readers exclusive photos from the scoring sessions!
