  1. Quantum of Solace

Not much of a BOND movie anymore. The detail brought into the action scenes (the bell tower fight, I was like shocked ) is amazing, but I think the story is hurt by it a bit.

What I liked is the development of Bond, who is still not very mature as an agent, I think a very revealing dialogue is the one when M asks him NOT to kill everyone and he is like "I'll try". The girls were a bit wasted I think, though it's good that it didn't end with a typical funny kissing scene or something, it added depth to Bond.

An interesting thing to me was the scarcity of the narrative. We don't see how Bond steals a car, we see him enter and drive away. The cuts are something you get deeply into, it fits the style of modern cinema.

I'm so glad there are people around who are committed enough to upload the latest series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, TV Burp and Have I Got News For You on Youtube for my viewing pleasure here in Oz. I really was worried as hell when I arrived that I'd miss them all.

Reached episode 10 of Death Note last night.

It's still epic, still finding ways of surprising me with its amazing, mature, adult character-building and international-spanning plot. I've never enjoyed a smart serial killer cat-and-mouse story quite like this. And to have the main character be the serial killer? And for the main investigator to be a totally fascinating creep? Talk about not knowing who to root for!!

    DECEPTION

Average, predictable "fooled the foolish little shy smart guy who's on a privileged place and can get us lots of money" story but i REALLY, enjoyed the RAMIN DJAWADI score; what a melodic and modern urban-souding score he produced for this one, i didn't expect it. It reminded me of Shearmur's K-PAX in places and some cello / piano motifs in it were surprisingly good but a little higher budget so he could get rid all those synths would be good indeed.

Nah, I didn't like that. Felt like a clone of the Bourne movies. The whole point of Bond was the STYLE of how he'd steal that car.

Wasn't that amused by it, pretty standard stuff and the best jokes are in the first 5 minutes before he enters the USA, the ending with Pamela Anderson is worthwhile though biggrin

Another remake from the Japanse horror franchise, pretty average though not horrible. Bwah barely a stinger moment that scared me. Ah well, one hour and a half spend

You mean one hour and a half LOST. Watch the original Thomas, a whole different (and scarier) experience.

    hehe, indeed NOT wink

I know, I'm a sucker for the Japanse horror movies, I think I saw most of them by now, if you compare the original Japanse or Thai always outdoes its remake. Don't know why I didn't rent the original

My favourite still remains Dark Water (Japanese version), my god does it blow the remake away shocked

I guess the only movie that outdoes the original is The Ring, which I found creepy enough

Yes, I agree, although the american CGI Sadako (was named Samara right?) didn´t convince me. But the rest is really good.

Edit: oh, and rent "Kairo" asap.

true the mood sucks in that, and I hate when they alter an ending (at least if they make a weaker one wink )

The original Dark Water movie still holds one of the most visual astounding endings I've seen in a long time

Ps, Shutter the thai movie (not the remake with Joshua Jackson) is awesome too, did you catch that one already?

  7. I'm not much into horror movies really. My favorites are Poltergeist, first Omen (didn't see the rest) and The Ring (saw only the remake)

A virtually unknown horror movie that I found very interesting is 1998's Phantoms. Otherwise I'm generally not a great fan of the genre, myself.

Which is why I really liked the Scream movies, because they were parodies.

    No spoilers

I just got back from this as well. Still working it over a bit. I'll probably see it with friends later this weekend, but my initial reaction is a bit mixed. Overall, I thought it was a good film, but no where near "Casino Royale" in terms of quality film making.

I wasn't all that bothered by some of Bourne similarities in how the action was executed except for the ridiculously fast cutting. One of the aspects I liked so much about "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" was that the cutting during the action scenes was not lightning fast -- there was room to breathe. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a many of the shots in "Quantum" were half a second or less. Combine that with the fact that there is a whole hell of a lot of action in this film (7 action scenes if my count is correct), and it gets a bit tiring.

On the other hand, I agree with Pawel -- I like what they are doing with the character. I'm interested in seeing how they continue to develop him in the next few films.

I read somewhere it didn't feel like an independent movie, rather like a continuation of CASINO ROYALE that still felt like a lot missing. And certainly not a Bond movie; i don't recall where, Yahoo! movies? Empire? Anyway, it was their official review.

That's because it's a sequel. The first car chase scene is directly after the last scene in Casino Royale when Bond shoots that Quantum guy in the foot. I prefer Quantum of Solace to Casino Royale, I felt more sympathy for the characters. And Casino Royale doesn't have Camille.

Possibly!! Although I'm not sure how they're going to juggle between Tennant's last few outing's and Morrissey's first story.

I can't get past Tennant as being the Doctor at the moment. But what I say of Morrissey he could be a decent replacement.

In Britain it was known as the Hammond Mystery. It starred Heather Angel, Halliwell Hobbes (famous for his butler roles), James Ellison, and John Howard.

I'm sure that all is not as it seems in the 2-minute trailer. I was wondering whether the "new doctor" has only read about the true doctor and it acting this scenario out. You don't actually see his sonic screwdriver and the "cyberman" has been made out of the equivalent of yoghurt pots and sticky-backed plastic. He has the words and phrases - that's all.

Saw Dark Knight for the fourth time yesterday. My University was having free showings at its cinema. Still packs a punch the 4th time around. I caught a couple of more small things.

Two-face has to be my favorite villain of all time. Everything about his character is amazing and appealing. The fall of the good man. The tragedy of it all. Watching him lose everything and transform to this new person, something that I just can't turn away from. :omaha:
