NP : THE ONLY CLASSICAL ALBUM YOU'LL EVER NEED - Various Artists

A laughable title, I seem to remember adverts with this kind of series, 'Only Jazz Album You'll Ever Need', 'Only Opera Album You'll Ever Need' etc etc, I guess it's aimed at people who only like the familiar and famous pieces and wouldn't otherwise know where to start looking. I've no idea how this came to be in my possession because I certainly didn't buy it but, regardless, this does contain plenty of fantastic and familier works by many of the usual suspects, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Mozart, Pachebel, Barber, Vivaldi etc etc, a supremely pretty listen but not really satisfying for classical purists.

I wonder, was there ever an 'The Only Film Music Album You'll Ever Need'?

NP : GETZ PLAYS JOBIM - Stan Getz

Nothing like a bit of bossa Nova to warm me up on this cold day, this includes classics like Desafinado, One Note Samba and the immortal The Girl From Ipanema, I can see sexy Brazilian girls already, cool! cool

NP : PLAYBOY LOUNGE - Various Artists

Apart from one track each from Afro Celt Sound System and The Egg, I've not heard of any of the artists featured, no matter because this is an excellent late night chill compilation.

    Bliss! cool

  1. Damn man, you must have one serious music collection... You live in a mansion? Or you have a big hard drive?

Neither! And I'm seriously running/run out of space.

I've been buying CD's since 1988 but I have cut down drastically on what I buy over the last few years, that includes scores and everything.

What a beautiful album, pure and utter class. For me this would normally be a late night/very early morning play after returning from the pub complete with a glass of port or whisky but on this cold dark night this will warm the cockles of anbody's heart, just brilliant!

It's good but I'd only go for it if you find it cheaply, the Cafe Del Mar compilations are just as good and I often see them at good prices.

Actually Sergey Lyapunov is really fascinating. He is a combination of Rachmaninoff/Lizst. His Rhapsody on Ukrainian is well worth a listen.
