  1. I think you're right.

But I've not listened to Dragonslayer in years.

Indeed! I'm guessing that people are already familiar with some of the music.
Part of his score for 2001 made its way to Dragonslayer, isn't it?

    Yes indeed!

I have enough North, and Dragonslayer was never one I could sink my teeth into anyway (although the film is one of the last fine magic & fantasy flicks from the eighties, with a fine dragon indeed!).

Good to see the score (re)released, though. I know it's a favourite to many.

Dragonslayer is going to appeal to the listener who can also appreciate Prokofiev and the contributions he made to modern classical music.

And even then it'll still be a difficult listen! I was listening to this the other day. It's a bit of an eye-opener compared with the "At The Movies" selection from Label X. Such a bold step to put this score with a Disney (and Paramount) film back when scores such as Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of The Lost Ark were being produced.

Not my cuppa tea, I'm afraid. I'm not really keen on North in that mode.
    I am extremely serious.

Can anyone who's survived Dragonslayer advise on the best way to get into this score? There's obviously so much rich North-ism in there but it is SO hard. I remember watching this movie as a teenager and despising the score. Now I'm obviously willing to give its reputation some credit, but I still don't find myself excited in the least when I'm about to pop it into the player...

Before you start, tell yourself that you're a dedicated film music listener, listening to one of the film music composer greats. Then just grit your teeth and start listening. Note the tracks that are the most listenable and make your own playlist.

Somehow I can't seem to get out of this chair.
