Can anyone see if the DVD is Region 0 or restricted?
It's great to see a score being so lovingly prepared for the people who see this score as being their "holy grail". Well done to all the people who were involved in the production of the set. And I'm sure that they've done their homework figuring that they're going to eventually recoup their costs with sales of 5000.
I'm just hoping that any of my own "holy grails" don't get this treatment and put it out of my price league. It's a bit too steep a price for me - even before my forthcoming predicament. I would have preferred having only the first 3 CDs and that would have been plenty. Maybe even the DVD and the book as an added feature of the set. The Spartacus love theme is a lovely theme but I'm not sure that I'd want so many versions. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I'm sure this will find an audience (though I am not part of it).
Same here, basically. Never been a superfan of the score, and I'm more than pleased with my ol' 60-minute soundtrack (which I play rarely, anyway).
However, I WOULD have liked to see that DVD thing. Too bad it's not available separately.I am extremely serious. -

I've never understood why people rant about this score either, or its boring love theme. I must admit that I'm curious about the various interpretations of the love theme though, as there are some very interesting composers there. I might be able to enjoy the theme more, if someone can perform it so it sounds less dated.
Still, it's cool that they've made such a great effort on the album, and I hope it sells well, even though I personally won't get it.

It really feels like a pressie to all the hardcore filmscore maniacs out there who have been clamouring for a proper (?) release for decades. To have their hearts' desire contented in such an abundant fashion is really nice to see: people really put a lot of effort into making this the ultimate version to supercede all previous soundtrack presentations ever.
So in that way, it's really good to see the industry putting their ear to the ground.
But -as with every single conceivable release in any part of the multiverse ever- there will be detractors or simply people who aren't interested.
It is the way of things.
I hope someone on MT gets it so we can get a first-hand review/experience, which I always greatly enjoy.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

A shame they aren't releasing the first disc separately. I would really like to have that, but not five other discs of extras. -

I liken this to someone discovering the complete Scheherazde which by the way takes up 10 CD's with all of the rewrites and is over 10 hours. I'll take the 40 minuteslisten to more classical music! -

I'm wondering that, if I have a copy of the MCA release and a copy of the Tsumani CD, do I have enough to get by with without having to fork out for this dazzling release? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

This really IS a holy grail for many of us. The "North-ism" here truly shines (all the same stuff that really doesn't work for me on Dragonslayer is like candy here) and I'm not referring to the love theme, either.
I guess the only question will be, where can I get this the cheapest without going broke?

I notice that it's $25 shipping from SAE to the UK for the Spartacus set, taking it up to $150.
Cheaper than going to Colosseum's shop though: it's listed there at 140 EUROS!! By my reckoning, $125 should work out to about 101 EUR.
$125 = ~£88 (excl. s&h)
140 EUR = ~£114 (excl. s&h)

This isn't going to be discounted.
Maybe there'll be a later release that's cheaper? Kritzerland have been releasing some of the titles that have previously appeared in FSM boxed sets. Here's hoping for a similar arrangement between labels!!The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Great that the Spartacus score is finally out.
On a minor note, that price is much too steep with plenty of filler and could really have been made easier for us by breaking it down into individual cds so people can get what they really want.

If it's Thomas then I doubt if it can ever beat his comments about James Peterson being the only person who can blow him every time. -

Sad thing is Varese brings up Goldsmith, yet sadly he is no longer with us -- imagine, just IMAGINE the arranged version of the love theme Jerry would have given us! They should have at least asked Joel.
And where's an arrangement by Dennis McCarthy, who worked with North on a few films during his last years? How could they not have asked him?The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Indeedy, Tom's the resident golden age specialist.
Would be great with a Southall review too, since he's my favourite reviewer. That guy could review rap music and Justin Bieber, and I'd still read it.

Well, just saying, the Limited Edition stuff that doesn't sell (cf. my earlier thread about barely-adequate releases) has been ending up on discount at SAE lately. I picked up some Perservance releases (The Shakiest Gun in the West, Fear No Evil) for $5 that I never would've been willing to pay full price for. Even relatively new releases like Bank Shot, Fade to Black and Day of the Locust has been discounted. Granted those aren't necessarily "holy grails."''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me
