I should just add that I think I know where he's coming from, but failed to take into account biological facts. Were we to compare a rat with a cat, and the sympathies we feel towards both, then perception is worth considering. Both can potentially suffer as much as the other (or as close as makes no difference), but we generally feel more sympathy for the cat because it's cute. But that's very different to comparing a cat with a plant. Although we do feel a particular amount of repulsion because it was a cat involved, comparing it with a plant is a moot point for the reasons I described above.
Blimey. Didn't think "cat in a wheelie bin" would have started such a deep discussion. -

It's all a matter of perception and proof that, as animals, we have a natural sympathy toward other animals, whereas we subconsciously think other lifeforms so below us.

I'd not mind spiders in trash bins (after having been doused in sulphuric acid and put on fire, preferably).
Nor would I lament alligators or gila monsters being dumped.
Equally I wouldn't be surprised if in certain parts of China and Korea dumping a cat this way would have been considered not much more than wasting perfectly good food.
And if I'd see a cat, a person and a plant drowning in a flood, I'd tried to save the human first.
If it'd be a plant and a cat, it'd be the cat.
We most certainly do not SUBconsciously think other lifeforms below us.
We very consciously (and understandably and logically) do so.
I can't for the life of me see why anyone would have an issue with that.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

I think we see, understand and agree on all the same points! Humans do indeed think that way, and we've explored the valid reasons as to why they do so.
I think the only point on which I differ is that I feel it's a shame.
I also want to point out that viewing a documentary on the life of plants can be an incredibly enlightening experience. Mind you, I already thought like this before I watched it, but if anything it just served to strengthen my point of view. Plants do move, fight with one another, struggle for survival just as every bit as animals. You just have to see their life in fast-forward to witness it. I guarantee you: that plant tossed in a bin did EVERYTHING in its power to regain access to the sunlight before it perished. Just like a kitten trying to scratch its way out.
But if I had to eat the plan to survive, would I do it? Certainly. Would I eat the kitten too? You bet.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

So... are you vegan?
Plants aren't animals. Plants don't feel like animals do. They have sensory abilities and nerve fibres, but nothing on the complexity of even the simplest self-aware animal. A plant's reactions to the environment are purely chemical and have nothing to do with being consciously aware of what it needs. A plant is very much a lifeform below us.
So although any form of life is amazing from a general perspective, I really wouldn't lose any sleep over a plant in a wheelie bin. -

My neurologist told me shortly after my stroke it was a miracle I survived it so I need to tell myself I'm grateful to be alive for each and everyday I have.

Not sure, using the old one at the moment.
Ideally I want to fix it but I don't know where to start. It won't boot up, can't even see the bios. I've taken the battery off the motherboard to reset the cmos and also reseated the ram but nothin'. -

I'm trying to get use to Google chrome, using it now as I type. I solved the problem with facebook but I need to remember to click on the + every time I open a new page including the bookmark sites I have, something I didn't have to do with IE. Like it much better and it uses less memory.

We should have a thread called "What's seriously fucking pissed you off", because this would fit neatly into that category, and to those whom it might concern, including Tom who I'm sure would like to see more stem cell research carried out to help stroke victims and even reduce the risk of a stroke:
Scientists attack court ruling against Obama's stem cell policy
Here it is in a nutshell:
A judge has overturned a decision by Barack Obama to relax rules on funding US government research using human embryonic stem cells
He defended his ruling by saying the Obama administration had tried to get around the 1996 law by drawing a line between work that involved destroying human embryos and work that could be done on embryos that were already available, usually left by women or couples in fertility clinics who have signed declarations authorising their use for research.
But, the judge said, that distinction was false, because newly destroyed embryos or embryos that have already been destroyed come to the same thing.
...and this guy's a judge!?

Yes, indeedy.
My first thought as I sat and watched my dad succomb to incredibly severe Parkinson's was how grateful I was for all the great Americans who prevented the research that may have saved his life and the lives of others like him. -

First of all I'm very sorry that I offended you by resorting to this thread. I did contact the company directly and they were very helpful. Thank you so much. You responded right away to it.
What I was wondering about was the recording that you had of the macabre concerto on the koch label. I'm trying to wrap up my hangover square article and it is the one loose end.
Again I apologize I meant no offense Alan

I just found out it is going to cost me $685.00 to ship my CD's from Minneapolis to San Diego. A hard physical copy is nice but there is something to be said for digital in this case.
