  1. I've borrowed the original pilot mini-series for the recent Battlestar Galactica TV show.

The new satellite channel Sky Atlantic had started showing Battlestar Galactica from what they said was the start and I had watched a couple of the episodes. However, they had not started by showing the original mini-series pilot and missed out all the initial plot establishments.

So, I decided to stop watching those and will start back at the beginning. I enjoyed what I've already seen to think that I'll invest in buying all the episodes on DVD when I find somewhere that's offering them at a bargain price.

The pilot takes about three hours and is absolutely worth it... A good film by itself to boot. And I'm quite taken by its score which is not by Bear McCreary but Richard Gibbs, it has some memorable moments.

I'm a huge Antonioni buff (I've seen all his movies), so L'AVVENTURA is a treat! One of his best, for sure.

    KOOPS is hilarious!

And the Norwegian film NORD has great mood and nature shots, but is a little lackluster in terms of story. THE STRAIGHT STORY it ain't, even though it tries to mirror some of that film.

    Interesting batch, as usual, Joep.

Kopps is just terrible! It had terrible, tiresome jokes, characters and plot. I agree with you on Nord.

Could be a culture thing about KOPPS. It's a big hit up here in Scandinavia. It has a definite "Scandinavian" humour and atmosphere about it. I liked it, especially the sexually frustrated protagonist!

I regularly like Scandinavian humor. It just recycles to many jokes that I've seen in other films.

I picked up the entire television series The Fugitive starring David Janssen. It will keep me busy off and on for awhile as there are a lot of DVD's in the set.

One of the few series of it's ilk where there was a final episode with everything resolved.

    - Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 (blu-ray) 2 visually stunning pictures, but I wanted the second one more than the first, simply because it's the best of the 2
    - Battleship (blu-ray) I don't care what the critics said, I enjoyed it immensely cheesy
    - Boogeyman (DVD) I don't care what the critics said, I enjoyed it tongue

  9. The Thin Red Line - blu-ray

I have owned the DVD for years, but when I found out that the movie has an European blu-ray release which actually carries over some of the Criterion Collection material (about half of it, including a new 2010 interview with Hans Zimmer and a commentary from John Toll, Jack Fisk and Grant Hill), I just HAD to have it.

  10. Game of Thrones: Season 2 (blu-ray)

I recorded the entire second season on my recorder (from prime) before having seen it, but due to a crash I lost the whole bloody thing. Since I didn't want to download this (and not have subtitles), I purchased the season on blu instead. Now who says downloads is killing the industry tongue . Recorder crashes is booming the industry instead wink

Besides, something's telling me the blu-ray is gonna make this season twice as brilliant

  13. I've not seen it. But here's a 10-minute film about it:

If you switch on the captions/subtitles ("German (Automatic Captions") you then can choose to have Google translate the captions into English. The translation isn't too bad!

While I haven't seen the series (I don't think because of this it will be aired here), it has made the news in Poland. The depiction of Polish resistance in the movie led to a formal protest issued to the TV station that produced and broadcast it. They have reacted to the protests and will produce another project which will show our resistance.
