I asked the HR person at my job and she says it's a gray area and I should decide for myself.
What do you guys think?

sorry for the late reply, but when at work there is no time to answer
Clearly, whatever you do, it's a difficult situation, considering it could either become a storm in a glass of water or something big. Martijn has a good point about making sure you have written proof of your superiors, if ever things go out of hand.
however, if I would be in that position and already ask myself if I would take it or not, then my mind is already made up. considering you have reservations, it's clearly your mind or gut reaction is telling you it might be too risky. And that you're not totally 100% sure about it. I'm sure it's a lovely invitation and it could amount to nothing serious, but considering you're hesitant about the whole situation, it's better to leave it alone.
then who are we to decide for you?
just make sure that IF you decide to go, that you fully and 100% enjoy the evening (and not wonder whether or not you've made the right call)waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

What if I decide not to go, but reserve two tickets: one for you and one for Bregt?
Or would that also be accepting gifts?

I was so sure you were going to say that! But you repeat yourself my dear! You have said that about me a couple of years ago. DO IT, ELIN!
I've always been a firm believer in job perks. I've never worked as a civil servant, but I have friends who are. As long as you have the integrity you have, I see no problem.

For the record, I used to party with my students when I worked as an assistant professor. Not private student parties, of course, but those arranged by the institute which also included staff. In fact, I were among the last staff members to leave. Didn't influence my grading, much to the chagrin of certain students, maybe.I am extremely serious. -

Speaking of this, that Golden Dawn party I find fascinating. Nuts in every conceivable way, and behaving like children. I find it amazing that people could vote for those people. But I guess people were so fed up with the old politicians that the extremes suddenly looked alot better. Is that about right?

You know I believe most people that voted for them didn't actually understand what they represent. They are Neonazists and Greece suffered terribly during WWII. The Golden Dawn party appeared as the "country, religion, family" regime and people got mixed up. Combine this with the severely uprising criminality rate that many believe is a result of the illegal immigrants and you have the answer.Whatever you gaze rests on,do not use your vision, but the eyes of your soul...She knows better... -

I would normally be at Glastonbury Festival on this weekend, considering the incredibly bad June weather we've been having I'm really glad now that it's not on this year.

As long as the bad weather just causes mud, and not deroots trees, and destroys tents, killing people like at Pukkelpop last year, they'll be fine...

It's the nice way to see it. The other side of thought suggests that a part of our society is indeed as rotten and has consciously voted for them. I believe the latter to.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
