Just a little cathartic release through jests.
Despite his "well known to all" borrowings I still LOVE James Horner's music! cool

I´ve seen several movies with Johnson, most of them more by chance than by inclination, and found myself having a good time here and there. Forget "The Mummy Returns", which tried to be a great sequel and failed; "The Scorpion King" was much better for being a straightforward, well-made B-Fantasy film. I also saw that movie where he plays that football (I think) star who has this tiny little girl around, and while the movie itself kind of sucked (for me), Johnson´s comedic value in this was priceless at times. He sure knows how to make great faces. I´ve seen the one where he plays some kind of mercenary in the jungle with an amateur sidekick; that one was genuinely funny at times.

I mean, I know I´m easy to satisfy, but I still can´t see why he shouldn´t do this.

The Rundown was a fun movie. The score was a nice listen as well.

NP : BEYOND THE GATES ( aka SHOOTING DOGS ) - Dario Marianelli

Wonderful, poignant and moving score to a very poignant and moving film ( and worth your time ). Lovely!

We Turned Our Backs is, IMO, one of the very best pieces of music of the 00's

    Hercules - Fernando Velazquez

My initial shock having died away (Velazquez pretending to be Brian Tyler?!) I have to say this is pretty damn entertaining.

    Lionheart - Vol. 1 & 2 - Jerry Goldsmith

I listened to both albums for months when they originally came out in the late 80ies and return to them regularly. I know the heavy use of synth is a big factor in people not liking it, but I loved the score from the start. Having half a dozen, quite diverse themes and being unashamedly romantic, rousing, adventurous, and skillfully composed will always keep it in MY Goldsmith top 10. It feels as if I´ve listened to "King Richard" at least a bazillion times, and it never grew old or boring. I still get goosebumps during the last minute or two.

The movie, however, is... bad. I mean, really bad. And that´s coming from the guy who loved the final episode of BSG, enjoyed the whole Matrix trilogy, revels in Man of Steel´s glory, tolerates the ending of LOST, and thinks Dwayne Johnson is quite a comedian. wink
  1. Lauras Stern / Laura's Star (2004) - Nick Glennie-Smith; Henning Lohner; Hans Zimmer

I was finally able to lay my hands on this album for a reasonable amount of €. This is very nice indeed.

I haven't really listened to anything for WEEKS. Too hot; too much outdoors activities, too few opportunities for proper sound systems etc.

It's kinda liberating, in a way.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. Listening to Lionheart in reverse for the first time in ages (Vol 2 before Vol 1 because I wanted the better half at the end) I realise I really should work out a playlist, not based on the movie (because the score is simply butchered all over the place in there) but on what would make the best listening experience.

But maybe some of you already did that and would like to share?

I can very much relate to that. I also need time-outs from listening to music from time to time.

  4. Blade Runner - Vangelis

    Nuff said.

Indeed. Summer time is the worst time for listening.

    NP : SATURN 3 - Elmer Bernstein

I've no idea what 1 & 2 are like or who scored them but this one is great, love it!

NP : TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD - Elmer Bernstein

I don't like this as much as many Bernstein fans do but there's no denying it is a great score.

No! NOOOO! I do like it! I really like it!! It is just that I like other Bernstein scores more. I admit this may well arguably be his best to film score though.

Am I saved from your wrath?

And so I preach to my audience of one:

    Cheyenne Autumn - Alex North

Breathtaking. Absolute orchestral savagery combined with the most lilting emotions. Uniquely Alex North.
