Volcano (Complete version) Alan Silvestri
The Varese 30 minute album does not do this score justice. Save for a few dud tracks, mostly near the start, this is an excellent action score that any action junkie should hear. One of his best.
Ooh, I didn't know this "exists". Want! I really enjoy what we do have on the 30-minute album, but yeah, too short. -

I have no memory of the score, but I do enjoy the film -- silliness and all. I loved DANTE'S PEAK too, which came out around the same time, the more "serious" and realistic of the two, if you could call it that.I am extremely serious. -

Dirk Gently - Daniel Pemberton
Bloody hell, this is utterly brilliant. A lot of it carries the same sort of vibe as The Man From U.N.C.L.E which is one of my favourite scores of the year. But I have no hesitation is saying this is even better. Not a wasted moment and has at least half a dozen absolute killer cues that I keep playing over and over again. I can't believe music this outstanding was written for TV. -

BTTF part II - Silvestri (Intrada)
Disc 2 (alternates) : It's cool that this disc plays out just like a shortened alternate version of the main program. These are actually complete alternates, not just bits and pieces of cues. And it flows very well... In that way, it's a very welcome addition to disc 1."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

DANTE'S PEAK has a high dosage of silliness too.
I reckon VOLCANO, ARMAGEDDON and 2012 and you have a great beer'd-up with the mates viewing right there.

I've always preferred the first, until this expanded version came alone. This is arguably his best action score. -

I've always preferred the second score over the first (although the first is no slouch either). More fullbodied and "big".I am extremely serious. -

Speaking of volcano films, I really liked last year's POMPEII. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm a big Paul W.S. Anderson fan to begin with, so there's that. But regardless of the science of it all (it proclaims to follow the exact historical event), it has incredible energy and narrative thrust. Underrated!I am extremely serious. -

NP: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 2 (2015) - James Newton Howard
In the Mail today. I have little time to listen right now so I just sampled the 10 minute suite at the end of the playlist. This is downright gorgeous. A great warm-up for TFA.
Edit: After listening to the entire CD, I think I like this score just as much as the previous one. During the winter break I'll try to revisit all four scores and come up with a playlist.
VolkerBach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

The oh-so-dated 90s guitar wail is amusing, but the rest is solid action scoring to say the least. It's nice being on a composer high. -

^ "She's In" and "Kruger's Escapes" are career highlights.
BTW, I don't like the amount of compression La La Land used on their expanded edition so I only listen to the original release. I don't know why anyone would want to tinker with a score recorded by Dennis Sands.

I've never really given that one a chance, but I suppose now is the time for it. For the time being...
The Mummy Returns Alan Silvestri
It doesn't quite beat Goldsmith's first score, but it is a superb score in its own right while retaining the feel of Goldsmith's. (Egyptian-y and Arab-y... but the good, non-Durka Durka Muhammad Muhammad, non-threatening kind.) -

I was never really impressed by this one but it's been many years since I listened to it so I should give it another chance. ( maybe it's too overshadowed by JG's excellent score? )
I agree with Erik on CRADLE OF LIFE, darn good score that rarely gets mentioned beyond the ( undoubtedly superb ) Pandora's Box track. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

The official album is shite compared to what's actually on offer in the complete score. This is without a doubt my favourite zombie score (not that I have many).
