So much crap is hurled at Zimmer from the armchairs of geeks and miserable wankers, but he seems like such a nice guy?! Ah, people annoy me.

I like Nolan, i like how he explains everything the DARK KNIGHT bashers need to listen in order to shut the fudge up hehe. Same goes for Zimmer but that goes always i guess, nothing new here. He IS a cool guy and knows his stuff pretty good. Look at the last segment where Zimmer works in his studio.
I wonder what those who accuse Zimmer's manners have to say about Harry Gregson Williams, for one
If only talent was related to how nice you are then John Ottman would be the best film composer of all time, and Zimmer would be right up there with the greats as well (and the likes of Herrmann and Goldsmith would be right at the bottom of the pile). Sadly it isn't, so they aren't... -

James, where did i mention "talent" ? I said he knows he stuff pretty good, something that is completely evident both in his music but also in these interviews, docus, videos, testimonies of people who have worked with him, the project he gets assigned to. What he does, he does it pretty good. Now, as far as talent goes, modern views about music and psychology are actually dismissing the existence of such a thing, in its traditional form. Every human being is a musical being once born, and it further depends on the education, cultural background, growing-up environment and opportunities (and so on) whether they're going to cultivate that predisposition or not.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Well, you were replying to a quote from Steven in which he seemed to say that people shouldn't criticise Zimmer, since he's such a nice guy. -

I hate to play Devil's advocate here, but James did say "If only...", not necessarily implying that you were saying 'niceness' is in indicative to a person's musical talent.

Actually that's not what I said. I was merely stating my disdain for personal attacks against Zimmer the man, as all too often they can become unnecessarily personal. People can criticize his music all they like, that doesn't bother me.
That's the last time I defend one of your comments as you seem to have something against me. -

Man I can´t believe we (you) are discussing this again. Is like going back to the past everytime Zimmer does something: when he does good, when he does bad, when he takes a nap, when he goes for a walk.....boring

Hey hey, chill everyone. I find it very difficult to believe that anyone is actually having anything against someone else, here in mt, at least from the usual gang of members. Zimmer, however, always manages to spark the most heated discussions

It's not so evident on this forum I don't think, I suppose you'd have to visit FSM or Clemmenson's site for more of that 'personal attacking' which I decry. Far from me to argue back of course, I mean, what's the point? I'm not the one with the problem!
Modern film music in general can spark a lot of, um, debate... -

For some time now Zimmer is barely discussed at FSM ( or I haven't noticed the threads ).
Leaving my poor taste "jokes" aside I've always found Zimmer the man very likeable and upfront honest, musically the majority of his output leaves me stone cold but there is no doubt he's had moments of brilliance; I always keep an open ear to any of his new scores but mostly I'm disappointed.
Just MY taste and MY opinion

I hate Hans Zimmer because he stole my money by producing thousands of horrible albums I have to buy! Thus he's a bad composer!

Actually, one of the reasons why I registered on MT (not FSM nor Filmtracks) is, that I don't need to add "I'm not a big fan of Zimmer, but" when I praise any of his works.

Ah, that's OK then. I didn't realise you were talking about personal attacks only. I think Justin's the only person who really does that around here.
The only thing I hold against you is your unnatural love for Stephen Sommers. -

Interesting, but if the whole thing is as far removed from the truth as this...
The facility began 10 years ago when fellow composer Mark Mancina suggested the two share some space. “I wanted to build one room for me, and Mark, who's a friend, said, ‘Wouldn't it be nice if we could share space or something?’ It made it cheaper, but, at the same time, it seemed like a nice idea to have a sort of collaborative facility.”
...then perhaps not all that insightful.
hmm? I think there's no lie...
Mancina and Zimmer built a shared studio (obviously more than 10 years ago. It's just the reporter's mistake), and then Zimmer wanted to expand the idea of sharing space with other composers/musicians, so he founded a company called Mediavenures with Jay Rifkin.
And in 2003 he left Rifkin to start RC, so Rifkin sued him and Zimmer sued back...?
That's what I understand about the history of MV/RC so far.
Media Ventures as a COMPANY was founded in 1989 during the scoring of Rain Man, because only that way Zimmer could have worked with Rifkin on that movie. The rest can be true,.
I didn't know that. I've also heard RC as a company already existed long before the lawsuit stuff...

Yeah, nice interview, except that I wish they would let the two composers be more of a guest DJ and tone down the bits on the DARK KNIGHT collaboration, which we've heard so much about before. Elfman's gig on "Morning Becomes Eclectic" about 10 years ago was much better, because the show was ALL about his eclectic mix of personal favs.I am extremely serious. -

Here's another KCRW interview... from 11 years ago.
James L. Brooks, Hans Zimmer - Morning Becomes Eclectic
http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb/m … ooks_hans_
This was my first time I heard "Video Killed Radio Star" fully... weird song
The first half is mostly Hans talking about his early career, the latter part is about I'll Do Anything, Jim Brooks' career, Simpsons songs, and As Good As It Gets (they played Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the end of the show
).
I hope I could understand their talking more because I really like Jim Brooks movies (except I'll Do Anything I haven't seen yet).... but his way of talking is too fast to catch up for me!

Apparently a version of the Kung Fu Panda DVD has a 25 minute short film called Secrets of the Furious Five. Wikipedia says Hans Zimmer and John Powell composed the music for this.
Does anyone know if that is correct? I haven't seen it. -

I haven't seen it, but the score is by Zimmer, Powell, and Henry Jackman, according to Annie Awards. They won.
