1994 there were some very good scores in there:

    Legends of the Fall
    Little Women
    The Shawshank Redemption
    Little Buddha
    Frankenstein
    Forrest Gump
    The Professional
    [Baby's Day out
    Black Beauty
    and
    The Lion King

Though choice... My choice would go for the one by James Horner

How does The Pagemaster compare to James Horner's other animated scores? My favorite so far is Balto.

NP: Goblet of Fire - Patrick Doyle

I wish he'd come back for another film instead of Hooper.

So, this could be his next project? Or will he turn it down because of his "off-year"?

LITTLE BUDDHA is my favourite score there!

But far and away the BEST film with the BEST film score was THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION....with ease!!!

The Shawshank Redemption is probably my most favourite score of 1994 after The Lion King. If it hadn't been for TLK, my vote would've gone for this.

I haven't heard The Lion King away from the film Ravi but considering I'm not a Zimmer fan I can't imagine I'd change my mind if I listened to it away from the visuals.

As a score to film Shawshank was perfect and it's a damn brilliant score on album too! Film and score deserved to be snowed under with awards. slant

After all this time Shawshank still fails to really capture me. But that's no surprise as Tom Newman's overall style fails to really grip me in general.

I, too, vote for James Horner, except in my case the top pick is The Pagemaster. But thank you-thank you-thank you for listing Baby's Day out!!! That score CANNOT get enough praise!!!!

It took a long time for me to appreciate it to the fullest but the diversity of genres (horror, adventure, fantasy, to mirror the different worlds depicted in the movie), in the end, is what wins me over, and the overabundance of rich action music. The "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", including "A Narrow Escape" rank among some of my favourite Horner moments. And the "Pirates!" track is rollicking pirate fun of the best kind. Best advice: turn off the lights, become 11-years-old again, and listen to this album a few times.

Mind you, for sheer beauty, it's really hard to displace The Land Before Time.

It's just a matter of opinion wink But do check out TLK's soundtrack or the half-mono boot sometime. I think listening in the film itself is not as much of a good experience as in pure music form, since a lot of good music is buried under heavy dialogues and SFX.

But I agree, Shawshank Redemption is a wonderful score, and is often in my playlist too!

When I saw Shawshank, and heard its score, I thought "Why this didn't get an Oscar?" and then I noticed it's because TLK got it. biggrin

I love both scores. Now I don't care which won what awards... both are fantastic in their own way. I just don't want to compare.

Will do Ravi. Just because I'm not a fan of Zimmer doesn't mean I don't like some of his music and I well understand the need to listen to a score away from the film.

if Frost/Nixon is received well, you can bet Zimmer's score will either be nominated for a Golden Globe or an Oscar, it all has to do about the film and not anymore about the score

When is ANGELS AND DEMONS released? Although i agree that a movie of the FROST/NIXON profile is more eligible for an oscar nomination, still if ANGELS AND DEMONS goes well and it's on-time for the oscars, it might get the nomination too.

Hans Zimmer marching to his own tune
Composer discusses his beef with Academy rules

    ...
"They have their rules, and I have mine," he said. "I like to put my team on my cue sheet because I want them to be part of the future of this industry. The Academy rules state that the cue sheet must only list the composer, but that's not the way I think. The good thing is this has started a dialogue within the Academy. I don't like the idea that people don't get credit and work in the dark."...

Couldn't agree more and that's something big for the Zimmer bashers - imo; not all of them, 'cause they make some good points from time to time, but the ones who always step merely upon the same argument, really believing that just because others don't credit them that means they don't do it too wink

As for FROST / NIXON, The official website of the movie (HERE) also features music that appears to be from the film itself.

hmm I can't say anything so far, but it's nice to see Hans on a non-DreamWorks animated film.
