And it deserved crap. So Zimmer, with great professionality, provided it.

Frost/Nixon isn't half bad actually. I really like the motif/theme/whatever that's apparent in "Hello, Good evening and Welcome" and "Beverly Hilton".

I'd say it's better than that. Actually, better than anything Zimmer's written in a decade.

Interesting review. I'd not say that, but it IS a very interesting score.

    i liked this part:

"The easy way out would have been to bring out a bit of inconsequential musical drone and plaster it over the film, and I imagine most film composers of 2008 would have done precisely that, and that it's Zimmer of all composers who chose the hard route instead is surprising - delightfully surprising."

Not that i ever expect drone from Zimmer, he does not do that. But in comparison with the usual soulless drones we get lately from other people, yes it makes a pleasant contrast.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. Zimmer stated that he originally didn't know HOW to score the movie, because of the great quality of material at hand (how to score such great writing and acting, that is).

And see one thing, this score had no big PR. And how did it come out?

    You are over reacting.

Am i the only one who things the 10 minutes track from Frost Nixon is a (how the name indicates) a demo witouth any focus? 10 minuts of meaningless....

Interesting score, sure. But I can't see nothing special. And Sure is not Zimmer best score in a decade.

    Nice review, James smile

F/N is one of my best scores this year, surprisingly one which has no action stuff!

The term "Pot calling the kettle black" comes to mind.
  2. Like I wrote over at FSM: Tom Cruise is going to do a remake of Anthony Zimmer and as we all know (the producer) Tom Cruise is often very keen to hire composer Hans Zimmer so who knows Hans Zimmer may score the remake of Anthony Zimmer.

While I was searching for a good photo of Hans Zimmer for my compilation CD-R artwork, I found an interesting article about his composing process, the origin of Mediaventures, additional writers, technologies...

Interesting, but if the whole thing is as far removed from the truth as this...

The facility began 10 years ago when fellow composer Mark Mancina suggested the two share some space. “I wanted to build one room for me, and Mark, who's a friend, said, ‘Wouldn't it be nice if we could share space or something?’ It made it cheaper, but, at the same time, it seemed like a nice idea to have a sort of collaborative facility.”

...then perhaps not all that insightful.
  7. Why? Media Ventures was set as a company, so Jay Rifkin could be a music editor on Rain Man and the score was reportedly created in a flat in LA.

hmm? I think there's no lie...

Mancina and Zimmer built a shared studio (obviously more than 10 years ago. It's just the reporter's mistake), and then Zimmer wanted to expand the idea of sharing space with other composers/musicians, so he founded a company called Mediavenures with Jay Rifkin.

And in 2003 he left Rifkin to start RC, so Rifkin sued him and Zimmer sued back...?

That's what I understand about the history of MV/RC so far. dizzy

Media Ventures as a COMPANY was founded in 1989 during the scoring of Rain Man, because only that way Zimmer could have worked with Rifkin on that movie. The rest can be true,.

I like Nolan, i like how he explains everything the DARK KNIGHT bashers need to listen in order to shut the fudge up hehe. Same goes for Zimmer but that goes always i guess, nothing new here. He IS a cool guy and knows his stuff pretty good. Look at the last segment where Zimmer works in his studio.

I wonder what those who accuse Zimmer's manners have to say about Harry Gregson Williams, for one biggrin

He's on the DVD, but he's clearly been edited out of this YouTube video... which is taken from the DVD obviously.

I do love that cello playing technique!
