Geez, that sucks. Typical teenage show-off....for a teen with problems at home. At least your cat was "only" spat at rather than something more violent.

Sheesh man; if that was one of my 2 cats, i'd certainly NOT have reacted as calmly; not to be proud of it or anything, but still.

He was just a kid D and much as I'd like to have slapped him up-side his brainless head I don't want to end up arrested or on the front page of my local paper as 'man beats up 14 year old', I definitely shamed him and made him look small in front of his girl, I'd hope he goes away and thinks about it?

Regarding the incident I just don't understand the needless senselessness of it.....unfortunately a lot of senseless things happen in our world, spitting at a harmless animal being the least of them.

I think the calmness comes with age, when I was a lot younger ( and 3 times stronger ) I'd have exploded and probably thrown him three blocks away

I also think it was indeed an act of age that guy did and although that's no excuse at all we all remember doing stuff we didn't understand at that age I guess... at least I do. And I especially remember the respons from grown-ups (adults, teachers). It made me feel really angry and it would lead to an even bigger argument or me feeling horrible for the rest of the day, but probably because I knew they were right.

What I'm trying to say is that it's so important people keep expressing their values to children. Many people are afraid of teenagers in the street which is a bad thing. They are afraid to tell their opinion or to mingle in with something educational, so they 'leave it' and that is always a missed opportunity. You reacted calmly and gave an important message and I'm pretty sure it landed with him.

There may be a chance he will remember this incident for a long time. And he may not understand his feelings of rebelliousness, guild, shame or confusion now, good chance he'll understand later on and will respect you for saying to him what he probably knew on the inside as well, that it was wrong and that it didn't make any sense. He probably knew you were right already while walking away and calling you names, but of course he doesn't show that.

Teenagers seem insensitive or harsh on the outside, but they are not. It is true that they are busy with themselves and egocentric but it's not true that they don't hear what other people say.

I don't know if I could do it, say something when I see it happen... and if I could I don't know if it would be so calmly and reasonable. Because I would be afraid I'd be more agressive perhaps than I really was, and see, there's the circle, if they do the same, we're all more agressive than neccesary...

Seriously, I believe making a better world is in small things like this. Because you made two things clear to him: not only how you felt about what he did to Gomez but also how you think about expressing your values.

Well, I'm not sure if this whole post seems a little far fetched, you were just annoyed about that guy, but I felt like saying this because for me it's hard to express my opinion and always think it's great when other people do so.

You know, you don't need to quote everything for just two words. No need to quote a whole post when you just can quote the name or so. There's too much quoting around here!

Perhaps we need something that jumps to the quoted post when clicking.

oh, talking about me in my back?

What's annoying me is the fact i still don't have Angels and demons or star trek.

The elections for the Central Government here have just begun. And our state's current chief minister is a hag who is dreaming of becoming the Prime Minister. Since the date she has arrived (illegally definitely) she has withdrawn all funds being given to charities etc, demolished beautiful parks and sports stadiums to make statues of herself and her mentor , registered law abiding citizens' homes as illegal and got them demolished in order to occupy the land for making some landmarks named after herself and her mentor again, seized farmers' agricultural land and making roads there which are so poorly made they can't withstand more than a few years' rains, increasing taxes for proposed urban development and used them to fill her own coffers. They're estimating her black money could add up to about the size of the British Royalty if investigated, but of course no investigation takes place because the police officers are all bribed and her hand dummys.

So today one of her majordomos comes over to our locality and forcibly tries to affix flags of her party to our houses - again illegally, such campaigns are not allowed and the police remove such flags anyway. We courtly asked him not to do so, but when he tried to use force our neighbours firmly told him that we're not interested in endorsing the party of a woman whose principles and deeds we do not respect.

And the guy smugly tells us that right now he's only got our gardens demolished but if we don't endorse then he'll register our houses as illegal and get them demolished!!! Mom calmly told him that he could only do that *if* the party was successful (which is doubtful anyway) because a single vote of ours can make a difference too. Anyway, the bastard walked away feigning disinterest.

It is because of #*@!%*%^s like this that our country is going to the dogs. So much potential and these politicians are living on the citizens' hard earned money like parasites and filling their own pockets instead of using the money for development as they should. Poverty and illiteracy is on the rise and no effective steps at all are being taken, no benefit I can visibly see. And now they threaten people for votes so they can get their arse in the Parliament House and establish more tyrrany.

I worry for the future of our country

Journalists who attempt things like that are murdered in the blinking of an eye. And of course everyone from the judges to policemen are bribed so the murder cases get forgotten...

No difference anywhere else in the world.
We've had our share of good people addressing bad ones for misconduct -vandalism, bike theft- and paying for it with their lives. With their lives.

And so there's some public clamor. Another white march.
And nothing changes.
Except people get increasingly scared to take responsibility.
And who can blame them?
