Gomez killed a rat once, it's the only rat I've ever seen in the area I live in.
We used to have one of those bird feeding "fatty balls" in the garden but we had to get rid of it because the fat dropped by the feeding birds attracted a rat into the garden. We could stand at the kitchen window and watch the rat feed away - less than 3 feet from where we were!
Funny how mice generates the "aaawww!" response but rats - don't.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

A little bit of spring beauty made my day better
Today I was reading a book on a train, when train stopped at a station I raised my head... Then I saw many white flakes blown by wind, from left to right, outside of the door. I was shocked for a moment because I thought they're snowflakes in this warm spring day!
But they were actually petals of cherry flowers (sakura). It was really a beautiful sight even the background was an urban station.
In Tokyo it was a peak of sakura season this week, so the blossoms are everywhere! I had a busy week doing field work in a small forest (very small, in an urban area), so I enjoyed some wild type species as well as usual garden species.
This is a photo of a wild species I took a few days ago.

Yesterday in London (while visiting the city with Bregt and Thomas after attending the Morricone concert the night before), in the middle of the city (nowhere near a park) we spotted a squirrel.
It was such an endearing sight. the little animal was running on the pavement, climbing in a pot of flowers and then back again accros the square to somewhere else. I'm hoping to somewhere greener and less dangereous for squirrels (I can still dream and be hopeful, can't I?).
Anyways, that sight made my day.
Unnecessary to mention is of course that the day before was made by meeting the Maintitles gang (in alfabetical order not to play favorites) Antony, Bregt, Jim, John, Timmer, Thomas and Thor you guys rock
and actually attending the Morricone concert.

The result of the elections in Hungary: the socialists are gone - finally! The Young Democrats' Party is the new governing party again. Life in Hungary was the best back in 2002-2006 when they were the governing party.
They will have to work very hard to make things better, though. -

I love squirrel's too Elin, I'm surrounded by parks and greenery here and there are plenty of squirrel's, I was surprised to see one this last December.
p.s. Unless you saw a very rare red squirrel these grey squirrel's are actually American invaders and are responsible for the demise of the British species, very cute indeed but actually are considered pests.
p.p.s. It was a blast meeting you and everyone else

We've just started seeing a squirrel in the garden over the past few weeks, feeding from the nut feeder. There's 2-3 that inhabit the small clump of trees across the road from where we live. But I think that the relatively bad winter has meant that at least one of them to venture across the road into our garden.
At the moment, it's a novelty so we don't mind it feeding on the feeder and digging small holes in our lawn.
I remember once when we were in the Lake District on holiday we came across a red squirrel that was in the tree above our heads. Knowing how rare they can be we spent ages watching it before it got bored with us and moved on.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Today I had a very long workday. I had to get up at 4.45 AM. Although Thomas swears by this time to wake up
, this is not my normal routine.
Anyway, I had to muster aboard a ship at 6 AM, get to the intended location and then help to execute water and sediment measurements during a tidal cycle (i.e. more than 12 hours). Which means I got of the boat by 9 PM.
But what made my day that much better (besides the nice weather and good company) was the good music on the boat. Somehow over 1 terrabite of music was on the ship's computer (and external hard drive of one of the crew man). Most of it rock and roll en good old seventies and sixties music, but also some odd ends.
One of them was some sort of best of Ennio Morricone. So you can imagine, just having been to the concert in London, having the chance to put his music back on, while being on a ship on a big river, while the sun is setting, and everything is coloured in orange and pink shades...
Life just couldn't get any better than that...

I started guitar lessons! I missed being able to play music whenever I want and since I cannot have my piano in Sparta I decided I'll make use of my brother's old guitar. I'm thrilled!
