    MEG is the big budget film version of the great book by Steve Alten, about the greatest shark ever lived!

    The megalodon (pronounced MEG-a-la-don; meaning "big tooth") was a giant shark that lived in prehistoric times, between about 18 million to 1.5 million years agoa and was the apex predator of its time. It is the largest carnivorous fish known to have existed. This species is a member of the lamnidae family but its classification is in dispute and a new genus has been proposed. Fossil evidence has revealed that megalodon fed upon large animals, including the early whales.

    Some cryptozoologists argue that this shark might still be alive today, probably living in deep waters, and often cite the examples of coelacanth and megamouth shark to support their claims. However, such beliefs have earned no credibility in the mainstream scientific community.

    The movie was gonna be directed by Jan De Bont, and so the score presumably went to Mancina, however now it seems no director is attached yet, for now Mancina stays listed as composer. I hope its De Bont and its Mancina, this movie needs a big musical sound

  5. Let's hope he returns to his mid-90s sound, Twister-style.

    Meg, in pre-production, but said to be directed by action-maestro Jan de Bont. So Mancina is only the logical choice.

    I had the misfortune to read that novel some years ago, it's rubbish!

    Seeing the MEG on the big screen should be cool though.

    I love Mark's score for August Rush. It's a shame that very little of it was put on the soundtrack; much of the music on the soundtrack is found in all the different rock songs and guitar solos peppered throughout the film. Hardly any actual score. I was so sad to find that my favorite musical moment in the film is not present in the soundtrack! sad confused

    Mostly it's a lot of soft, emotional music representing August's journey to find his parents. (Have you seen the movie? It's a really good film.) Here's a clip of my favorite moment of the score, a beautiful section for bells (?)(or celesta? I'm not sure what instrument, exactly), guitar, and strings. It's the first one in the playlist. Sadly, it's not included on the soundtrack, and cannot be downloaded from that page. cry

  16. Well finally heard another very enjoyable Mancina, it has been many many years for me. I was craving for something in the style of his breakthrough work such as Speed, Bad Boys, etc.

    Blood+ Volume I is an asian production made for TV, but with Mancina as composer and Hans Zimmer as producer. It has moments that go back to his other good action stuff such as Twister. The main theme is very catchy and some of the action tracks are excellent, but the best cue is without question the vocal-driven final cue which introduces another stunning melody, with amazing performance by the female singer.

    I heard the second volume of Blood+ isn't as good, mostly synths, but this first volume is truly good melodic film music in the style Mancina started out with, so I can only hope he gives us some more memorable stuff in the near future.

    As someone educated in music, Demetris, you will either hate it for its oversimplication of what it takes to be a musician, or love it for the way the whole thing presents music in this awed, almost worshipful light.

    I'm also educated in music, and I thought it was very good, though I see what you're saying as far as why Demetris may not like it. But I think the coolest thing about that movie is how it brings together different genres of music as just 'music,' and furthermore, that it actually includes classical. smile
