NP : Ennio Morricone - Mission To Mars
I saw this movie again in HD and it's gorgeous. The visual and the music works like whoah!!!! And the album is good. The string melody is sublime, as sweet and as melancholic as only Ennio can do. That infamous organ cue is curiously hypnotic on CD as well as when accompanying the deliberately paced visuals. The whole score does a great job drawing you into the story and immerses you in the visual experience.
I'm looking for this one for ages now (why are most Hollywood Records releases out of print?
)... One of the decade's best scores.
There's a very good reason they stopped releasing it

Hell, I'm one of them. I'm not much of a Morricone fan with the best of his scores (although there's a few of his themes I'm partial to), so you can imagine I'm not much of a fan of this one. -

NP:The Dark Knight (Zimmer and Howard)
"Why so Serious" is dissapointing, I hoped something more wild!!!! This is not so "unlisteanble" like they tried to show us. It's a interesting track, reminiscent to the Fan and BHD.
"Harvey Dent" it's clearly more howard than anything heard in BB. A little bit more orchestral than Zimmer stuff, Ironically with the noble theme from BB.
The score seems thematically more focused, more orchestral and a little bit more action packed. brilliant!(for the kind of score it is)
"The dark Knight" 16 minutes track is pure Gold. Touching. Pure of Zimmer noble themes and a very well integrated Synth. It's like "journey to the ice" in a 16 minutes jam session!
"Like a Dog Chasing cars"
one of the action tracks of the year! Special metion to the Espicius theme heard in a big old fashioned way, and Joker's brilliant reprise!
"agent of Chaos" and , Specially, "Introduce alittle anarchy" are finally full action tracks! With Joker's and Batman's theme played! Noble, heroic and full of Zimmerism like Backdraft and Black Rain! Enjoy the party dude! -

Yup... it one hell of an irritating score. However, "Where?" is a pretty friggin' awesome piece of music. Too bad that piece and the HORRIBLE visuals don't work together.

NP: Beautiful Themes for Oboe and Flute (Delerue)
The new compilation from Disques Cinemusique, following up their compilations for Piano and Guitar and Flute. Seriously, if you like beautiful themes by Delerue, money could not be better spent this year than by purchasing this CD.
I reviewed the previous one and DCM was going to send me a review copy of this one too but i never told them to go ahead with it 'cause, i don't know, JUST flute and oboe, ONLY? Or are there accompanying instruments as well?
String quartet accompanies the flute and oboe, with occasional string soli.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Yeap!
The bad is : No Bruce Wayne (well, the black Rain version of that theme is in the acion stuff )or Batman heroic theme from the first movie, and there's no any touching track like "Barbastella" or "Talarida".
Some Copy and paste moments from the first movie.
And...."I'm not a hero" it's a weird track. Like Six Weeks ago from Bourne Ultimatum, I can't see where the track is going...it's like Clips puts together.
The Good is: Better defined themes, more thematically, more orchestra, more action, more insteresting orchestrations, more music....and the Joker's motif sometimes really, really make me laught! (I only hoped the piano touch was more present in the final suite, but im happy with the electric guitars and the percusion
)
Zimmer backs to his older sound (for good), and Newton Howard is more inspired here like he was with the soso love theme from the first movie.
"watch the World Burn" is Am I not merciful? without chorus...So enjoy it!
"Like a Dog Chasing cars" and "A Dark Knight"

I love this score. That BIG and LONG action track is a perfect example why Goldsmith is the master of a slow build-up that actually leads somewhere.
EDIT: Sorry for posting three in a row, but that´s what you get if you ignore this topic for two days...

Dark Knight.
A more developed version of BATMAN BEGINS. Definitely less synthy and more organic in places with much more physical sound (not throughout though, this come in places too) and surprisingly enriched-in-comparison arrangements. Yes, there is the lack of new, strong and notable themes but its sound is rather impressive (and notably darker) at many parts and the more distinct than before presence of James NEwton Howard's style is welcome too. I like what i hear so far.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Me too. The score as a whole isn't brilliant, but that end title piece is.
As for Mission to Mars, it certainly sorts the men from the boys.
