John Williams concert in Ghent
For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), the Brussels Philharmonic (Flemish Radio Orchestra) will be performing tunes by five-time Oscar winner John Williams. In a career that spans six decades, Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, including Jaws, ET, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. The Brussels Philharmonic will be accompanied by three choirs: the Flemish Radio Choir, the Musa Horti and the Flemish Opera children’s choir.

They invited Williams himself, but they're awaiting a definite answer. So perhaps he will be here too, lets hope so. At least, it's a great line up, with Brossé and our best orchestras.
This will be a fantastic week in October. 5 concerts, which of I will attend 4. WSA, Yared, Mansell and Williams. Who's coming?Kazoo -

Are you kidding me? Williams in GENT? I must be dreaming..."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Here's the problem...if John Williams goes, I go. But in all honesty, I'm not going to get a chance to get anything signed. He'll be swamped. So currently there's little point in me booking a ferry ticket. -

Am I reading this wrong, or are you saying that the only good reason to go if Williams is there is to get his signature? Please tell me I'm wrong? -

There are 3 things I'd want if Williams went:
1. A huge-ass concert of his music
2. A chance to say hi
3. An autograph
Two of those things are likely impossible, and it would have to be a good concert for me to travel to Belgium. -
- CommentTimeJul 16th 2008
If Williams is going I am going. Period. Regardless of whether or not I get to say hi or get his autograph, just as long as he's there to conduct his own music. I went to a Goldsmith concert once and he wasn't able to make it because of his cancer, so I'm sure as hell not going to pass up an opportunity like this! -

Hmmmm? Just wondering, has anyone here met Williams in more recent years and got an autograph from him? I met him the once in 1980 at the Royal Albert Hall and had a little chat with him and got the inner sleeve of the double LP Superman signed ( right alongside the big pic of Chris Reeve flying ), I had no problem whatsoever meeting him and I'd guess there were only 20 - 30 people waiting to meet him despite the gig being a complete sell out. Can people still meet meet him or is he just too mega for that?On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

chances are perhaps slim, but for us Belgians, hearing Williams music is probably a one time deal. So if he comes or if he doesn't, at least the music that will be served up is of stellar quality. Let's hope the performances followwaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

Well the same orchestra brought us an unforgettable Goldsmith concert. We were right there on the first row, fully captivated by the brilliant sound of the Flemish Radio Orchestra... Something to be proud of IMO. Williams present or not, hearing Star Wars performed live is a must..."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Tim, I'd say that nowadays the chances of meeting John Williams like you did are slim. He's just too big a star and even if he would want to meet people there would be a possé of "suits" who would undoubtedly want to keep him at arms length from people.
I'd imagine that if Williams did attend Ghent then there would be a lot more people who would go - just look at the response here to the possibility of John Williams travelling to Europe for this gig.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

It's easy. If Williams doesn't come, I won't go. If he does, I'll turn around and order an airplane ticket and festival ticket in a heartbeat, even if it means taking up a loan to afford it. This is pretty much a one-time chance, the way I see it.I am extremely serious. -

Exactly. It's the only real thing that's excited me about the festival this year. -

I find that a bit weak I'm affraid, I fully understand you don't come because of the distance nor the price you would have to pay, but if Williams being there or not is the only reason, I find that an offense to the man's music. If you come, you come for the music. The man present or not is what makes it fun or acceptable.
I would have loved to have Goldsmith with us during the concert at the time of his passing, but I went for his music, not to see him from a distancewaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

Seriously though, it's just going to be everything that's played EVERYWHERE already, but played slightly better. If Williams was there conducting it then it would be on a whole other level. -

ok, but for us europeans and especially Belgians this is the first time anything of his music was so close, I don't remember even our fellow country neighbours having the honour of hearing his music live.
So come for the music, and if he isn't there it will be a bit sad, but his music will live on that evening and days to comewaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

Just like the Goldsmith concert, though he had already passed on, his spirit was very much alive in that concert hall. Truly riveting performances + a passionate audience = Memorable to say the least!"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Yes, of course a concert with "just" his music would have been awesome as well - as would the entire film music festival - but we'll probably see many of those in the years to come (perhaps even in Norway). I'm not so sure we'll see Williams HIMSELF perform in EUROPE in the years to come, though, so as someone else said above - him being there brings this to a whole other level. It would make a Williams completist like myself "complete" as a fan as well. Even if I didn't get to shake hands with him, just his presence would mean a lot.
But at this just point, nothing is settled. To be perfectly honest, I doubt he'll come over.I am extremely serious. -

You may well, and probably are right Alan. Still, I'd love to put that to the test?
I should put my queary at FSM to find out how possible it is approaching Williams in recent times? On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I truly hope for you a concert of his music is possible in norway, and I hope this is possible to whoever lives on this planet. For us fans there is no greater joy than to stand so close to the music you can almost taste it. I truly hope he will be there, would probably make me wet myself
but at least I'm glad we are gonna hear his music livewaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -
