No way?
That's even worse than our prime minister, who was asked to hum the national anthem, but started to hum the French one.

Let's face it, lads, there's foul-ups in every political campaign. And Americans -for better or for worse (but moste assuredly for arrogance!
)- do generally consider themselves the hub of the world. I guess not few people here are old enough to remember the great vice president Dan Quayle giving a very passionate and moving speech about the Holocaust, only to completely annihilate any positive effect by describing it as "a great American tragedy..."
Ahhhh, Dan Quayle.
THOSE were the days!

(Incidentally I think McCain's choice for VP is a masterstroke, demographically speaking. I was already pretty sure he would win the elections, now I'm convinced!)'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Palin scares me... Everyone here probably knows I have a religious affiliation in common with her, but the separation of church and state should remain. Let the politician have faith by all means, but don't campaign on it.

Agreed about your first statement.
In spite of being an outsider (I'm Indian) it saddens me to see the kind of dirty games being played. That ridiculous smear campaign about sex education for kids, and the pig/lipstick comment being twisted out of context is a scary indicator of how the McCain/Palin rule is going to be.
Anyone with a brain and a computer connection should be able to do their own research and figure out who is better for them and for America. But I guess there's too much of brainwashing taking place. Making the middle class believe that a plan that taxes them and gives a tax break to the rich is actually going to benefit them more than one that doesn't raise their taxes. Hammer down the idea, thanks to Faux News, that the economy is still strong and that those people down there hate them for their freedom.
Why can't people do their homework? Shouldn't it be blindingly obvious who the lesser of the devils is?

Shame it's not Michael Palin!? He's a lovely chap and actually knows stuff about geography.

Many that share her faith find it important. It describes her character, values, and beliefs. And a lot of that big deal about her faith is created by the media.
I think it would be amazing for the US to have an African American president. However, people voting for him because of his color is really pissing me off. People are voting to defeat race because of his race.
I dislike a lot of what both candidates have to say. But choosing the lesser of two evils I'm voting for MCcain. I agree with him considerably more. -

Yes, but a "specialist in foreign affairs" shouldn't mistake the ORIGINAL Spain with a South American country which brings only revolution.

Me too. I would have voted for McCain in 2000 if I was of age, I liekd him better than Bush...but seems McCain is leaning more towards the right (for obvious reasons). I hate the VP pick personally, but thankfully the VP has virtually no power, so she'll just bring in some needed votes. -

Alright! I'm stumped. Could you let me know why you think so?
To me it seems that McCain has sided with Bush and his policies most of the time. And it's scary to see his gung-ho attitude about the Bush doctrine. And he continues to deny that the economy is in shambles. I just don't get it. What do you find appealing? -

Values, and things such as honor are important to me. These are things I can (somewhat) use to describe McCain.
The Iraq situation: all people can disagree on why we are there (and we did have the right to go there because of many broken UN sanctions that Clinton chose to ignore), however, the fact remains that we are there. The thought of the US just pulling out is terrifying. The weak Iraqi government would fall right away. All of the US soldiers lost would have died in vain. Terrorists would see it as a victory. And the world would despise us further seeing us as a country that started a fight with a 3rd world country which we could not finish. McCain knows all of this. We are making great progress over there, but due to the bias and obvious agenda of the media, the situation over there has been given a gloomy appearance.
And McCain has recognized the horrible state of the economy. And has drawled up plans to fight it just like Obama.
McCain military record is quite honorable.
Obama's affiliation with a anti-white church for 20 years is very disturbing. Especially when he leaves is just as it begins to hurt his campaign.
I am against higher taxes. And more and more social programs that I will have to pay for, but most likely not receive their benefit.
I believe the US should close its borders, and perhaps change its immigration laws to help legalizing illegal immigrants. But many of these people are disregarding our laws with little care.
And just as a thought, I am disturbed by much of the US society today, where people are for abortion but against capitol punishment. They are okay with killing innocent babies, but not guilty murderers.
What are your thoughts? -

I hear this talking point about how McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time or whatever, and its beyond ridiculous. OBAMA probably voted with Bush 90% of the time. So much of the stuff that goes through the Senate is total no-brainer stuff that gets passed by a large margin...so the mudslinging on those types of ads just seem really silly to me.
Anyway, I'll take McCains ridiculously conservative slant (it certainly wasn't always this way---he had to in order to secure the backing of the republican party) on the social issues in favor of what he brings in the economics. While Obama might appeal to me a bit more socially, it's not worth the expense of raising the hell out of taxes on the "upper class". my dad has to give pretty much half of what he makes to the government. Its messed up---bring on the flat tax.

When you phrase it that way, it does sound quite awful, but that's being a bit unfair. Personally, I am for abortion in very early stages, but against it later stages (ie partial birth abortions). I am against capital punishment in most, but not all cases such as child rapists/murderers. In recent years, many people have been released from death row because new DNA evidence has shown that they are innocent. How many people are still on death row that are innocent? Personally, I would rather err on the side of caution and not put a single innocent person to death.
These matters are rarely cut and dry which is why "nothing in politics is simple".
I too am disturbed by American society, but for different reasons. Mostly I am disturbed by the ignorance, arrogance, and selfishness of so many people here that I encounter everyday. It seems that simple things like decency and respect are a rarity (and I'm not bitter and old, I'm only 20). -

Most Americans feel that the world revolves around them. Many are obsessed with more is better. They are credit card maxed out (saving is a foreign word), want everything now, are stuck in an overpriced home now because they bought it as an investment not to live in. I'm glad I don't have to be that way and frankly am ashamed my fellow Americans are the way they are.

What a ridiculously unnuanced way to look at two such complicated issues.
When does a fetus become a human being? Would an unborn fetus feel loss about not being born? Should it be granted the same value as a full grown human being? If yes; when, during the developmental stage, and why?
Should governments have the power to kill their own citizens? Seeing as the judicial system is imperfect, what risk of killing innocent people are we willing to accept?
These are not easy questions. It always bothers me when people oversimplify these issues.

One of the issues that bothers me is the debaucle with the get rich scheme with the houses in the US. I was taught that you bought a house to live in. Now the government needs to take over 700 billion dollars in default loans. Not right.

That's free market capitalism. In their defense, if they know what they're doing, buying and holding houses like that in the right areas can yield an extremely high rate of return. Some people just got in over their heads and decided to throw common sense to the wind. And combined with many other factors, we now find ourselves at this buyout. -

So if I make a poor investment the gov't will bail me out? I don't think so. I'd be homeless pushing a shopping cart and standing in food lines. People want socialism in our govt when they need help. It was greed that enticed them in the first place.

I believe capital punishment should only be used at a time when there is no doubt on whether or not a person is guilty. Governments should have the power to kill their own citizens. Some men deserve to die, and tax payers should not have to pay to keep these men alive.
I believe life begins at conception. Therefore, having an abortion would be murder. My best friend was supposed to be aborted but his mother decided against it. He is thankful for life, and is living it to the fullest. Just because the unborn can't communicate it does not mean they are not human. I think that Abortion should only be used at a time when it is a life or death risk for the mother. I believe that abortion is the majority of the time a selfish act where the baby would be an inconvenience to the mother. Perhaps she should not raise the child, but she should have it.
It bothers me when people do not take a side simply because they are afraid of being politically incorrect.
This is my opinion and belief. I think this is a nice friendly way to debate and share thoughts. I have full respect for you guys and see where you are coming from.

If only life was so simple you know; you can't judge situations as hard and complicated as this, if you're not into a position where you have specific experience.
