I'm pretty sure Seattle didn't have a summer this year. It poured on my birthday this year (July 3rd) and at one point, one of our news stations reported (I think in July) that Seattle had been 90 degrees for a total of...30 minutes so far this summer.

We did have one week of stifling weather, but again, that was only one week. And now things are cooling down.

Frosty night. Yesterday afternoon a couple of pieces of hail. Brrr....

For the last three years the winter wasn't too bad for me, because the kids only had to walk five minutes to school and I go to work in five minutes too on my bike. But now my daughter is in high school and has to cycle for 30 minutes and I realised for the first time that winter will be a worrysome time for me again for the next six years at least!!

Of course, as with many things, it bothers me more than her. She doesn't mind at all.

Maybe not 'weather' per se, but it's getting dark REALLY quickly here now. At 15:00, it's starting to dim and at 16:30 it's pitch black! Since I usually get up late, it means that I get very few hours of daylight.

Then again, you're probably used to early darkness down on the continent. For Norwegians -- with summer light going to 22:00 in the evening -- it's always a weird transition every winter.

  3. I am glad my travel plans meant travelling yesterday and tomorrow. It has been horrible here in Falkirk today (same as a lot of UK).

Best to stay indoors, supping a pint!
