- discussion topic JOHN DEBNEY
- Comment What makes a composer great? What is your defenition to that term? For me a great composer is someone that can elevate music to something transcendental and approaches his craft as an art. Filmmusic sometimes is just that! So many artistic achievements have been contributed to this genre. And I ...

- Comment It's plain and simple. Compare the amount of music the guy has written with the quality he produced over his career. Then I think we can pretty honestly say that 'Passion of the Christ' was a rare exception. Indiana Jojo

- Comment Christo, have i read it correctly that you dispise 'Nightmare before christmas' AND 'Edward Scissorhand'??? Tastes can differ because I simply adore these scores and think it's up there with his magnus opus: Batman. then again... it's a good thing that there's something for everyone to enjoy... ...

- Comment Debney's music is suitable for it's causes for sure. But ask yourself if you would pay the money for those soundtrack releases? In my case, certainly NOT! There's enough interesting and much better filmmusic out there to buy so i'll save up for that.

- Comment you are right Christo. Comparing is not always the right thing to do. So I'll stick with Gospel because even Debney's best (passion) doesn't quite live up to my standard of great music. Jesus Jojo

- discussion topic The Dark Knight - Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard
- Comment What lies beneath is a Bernard Herrmann rip, no doubt! So I don't think Nolan was looking for second best. But the Goldenthal discussion is an interesting one. I could'nt help noticing when Zimmer releases the electric guitars on Gotham, that Goldenthal's score to S.W.A.T could've had a great ...

- Comment No, but come on. There's a reason why Zimmer get's certain assignments and Silvestri other ( not to say a bit lower profiled projects ). So Silvestri has his style and it suits there cause as with Zimmer. I'm confident that Nolan would've disliked anything Silvestri would've done ( Watch memento ...

- Comment Silvestri on Batman??? the reason that Nolan picked Zimmer & Newton Howard was to give Batman a completely new and fresh make-over. Watch Batman Begins and you know what i'm talking about. I think they are perfect for this films. Silvestri would be a total mis-cast for this film although his ...

- Comment Hi Franz! Totally agree!!!! For anyone who was a tad dissapointed in the composer recently, they should listen to 'STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE'... In fact, every filmmusic fan that has been a bit dissapointed in the recent score releases in general should pic this one up! It's a true gem and I ...

- Comment it's debatable. I have been seeking out 'complete score' bootlegs and it's fun to have them. Although I must admit that I listen far more often to the regular compiled album, because it's just more flowing as a listening experience. But it depends from score to score I guess... grtz Jojo

- Comment It happens to the best of us I guess. Besides, what are the odds that 2 people in a simular profession share the same name!! - Comment He is certainly a very important composer no doubt. Even if you don't like his work... But you can't listen to any modern soundtrack today and think of Zimmer's influence.
