I think so too, but I'm scared to admit it on a forum like this.

Just finished the first season of Merlin. Overall, it was classical BBC Saturday night family entertainment show, complete with everything you´ve come to expect from it. The stories were okay, some good, some even great, others have been weak right up to black hole-sized plothole-silliness.

The established actors were all very good in their roles, the newbies came to life over the course of the series. There were some very nice ideas about the overall legend, but I wished they would have been a bit more courageous about continuing plot lines, and some stories began very dramatic with promises of great changes, but in the end, they always hit the Reset-button. When you finally realized they wouldn´t dare to risk an important character´s life, the tension level dropped by many degrees.

I hope they will do some longer plots which carry over more than one or two episodes next season. I won´t hope for big changes, I´m quite sure the series will go on like this until the end, with great developments reserved for the final season.

It IS quite entertaining, but on a rather simple level.

We can only imagine what would be if Tchaikovsky composed music directly for Hollywood. The Academy would like him I'm sure

    Outland

First viewing of this enjoyable film. There's a nice, gritty atmosphere and while some of it's rather outdated it's still very watchable. Now, where's the deluxe edition of the score?

    Batman Returns

I first watched this when I was doing some voluntary work for a charity and went to the local cinema collecting money, and the cinema let us stay and watch the film for free. Now I think about it, that's probably also the last time I watched it, until now. Not really my cup of tea - Burton's excesses here probably outweigh any in his other films. Everything's so well done, just not particularly my thing.

Also, on television, I thoroughly enjoyed the BBC's Wallender starring Kenneth Branagh. He's such a fine actor and it's very rare to see someone of his calibre in a tv series; he was perfect for this role.

I think some actors have such stature that the odd foray into TV does no harm whatsoever, even Gandalf himself, Sir Ian McCellan appeared in Coronation Street not long ago.

p.s. can you remember the title of the TV drama with Brannagh about the final solution?

    Bridge to Terabithia

OMG. If you´ve ever been a child at heart, you have to see this. Period.

Never before has a trailer been so WRONG about a movie, and so RIGHT at the same time.

If you don´t know anything about this, avoid any spoilers. At all costs.

    A Simple Plan

I've wanted to see this for ages, and I have to say, it's not a good film - it's a VERY good film! Didn't realise Bill Paxton could actually act, and BB Thornton is great, as are the various character actors in the other roles. Elfman's score is a blast too.

indeed, the trailer makes it look like another Chronicles of Narnia while it is in fact much better, was pleasantly surprised by it too. Plus nice music as well smile

  4. That´s what I meant.

Totally agree, a very good film. The books ending was even more of a downer.
