NP: Deep Impact - James Horner
Lovely score. The final cue is Horner at his best.

There´s one thing I´d like to add to that Vangelis / 1492 thing:
As much as I like playing 1492 while driving on hot summer days, I love playing Blade Runner while driving through the night. I live close to the Ruhrgebiet, where dozens of factories and power stations are lined up on the horizon and along the motorways. Driving through this Cameronic / Scottic setting (I always have to think of Terminator and Aliens, and of Scott´s Blade Runner and Black Rain) late at night, especially after a long RPG session of Shadowrun, combined with playing Blade Runner, counts as one of the most amazing memories I have about the golden days of rolepaying. -

Largo Winch Alexandre Desplat
What's missing from this score is a truly stand-out, power track. But that's not a complaint since what we are 'left' with is still a very addictive and enjoyable score. I really enjoy that main theme, vintage Desplat! (You know, me being the expert on Desplat.
)
I know what you're saying. The killer 4-5 minute action cue that brings it all home.
Yup I felt this even after the first listen. A bit of arranging gives the ending a bit more bang but it's still not quite enough. -

NP: Gangs of New York (Elmer Bernstein)
Don't get me wrong. It was wonderful to finally hear this score. Strangely enough, it was probably the score of the three in the Rejected Bernstein box that I liked the least. Still, better an average Bernstein score than an excellent score from many another. I still would have liked to have seen the film with it, as I suspect it would have given the film a less hodge podge feel than the juke box approach to music selection in the final film.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Totally agree. An underrated Horner gem, probably due to the bad memories the film brings. As you say, the "Goodbye and Godspeed" cue is Horner doing what he does better.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

NP: Et Apres / Afterwards (Desplat)
More for those who liked Benjamin Button and Birth than Largo Winch and Golden Compass. Only one reservation... could it be in 'The Night Blooming Cereus' that I detect a hint of a temp track? The chord progression that constitutes almost the entirety of Badalamenti's score for A Very Long Engagement makes an appearance, shrouded in Desplat's trademark orchestrations. (Some of the more textural cues from that score do have a similar feel to other moments in the score, but that could be drawing a long bow.)
The themes in 'The Swan's Song' and 'Lost' are truly beautiful. We need never wonder again what it would have been like if Debussy had become a professional film scorer in the early twenty first century.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I like it more than Benjamin Button to be honest, and I find that main theme quite brain sticky. I also noticed a part where I looked up and thought I heard it before, but didn't knew where. You may have solved.

Sorry Erik, But I find Van Helsing much more enjoyable, and much more Silvestrian than The Mummy Returns.
The complete is great because it has more of the "family" theme wich is pretty good, put some air into so many action tracks. -

I do like Goldsmith's work, yet a LOT of his action scores just don't do anything for me but his more dramatic work does. His Rambo and Star Trek scores (give me Horner or Eidelman any day) just leave me cold (heresy to you guys, I know). It's exceptions like The Mummy and The 13th Warrior that I enjoy.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog
