  2. Trevor Jones - Thirteen Days

Very good, tense, dramatic and well-arranged score. Performed by the LSO. That's funny, BTW. A very American movie was directed by an Australian, the American president was played by a Canadian. Score was written by a South African (and performed by an English orchestra!). The Director of Photography was Polish. So there biggrin

Anything else? I get the sense she hasn't done much. For example, I LOVE The Black Dahlia and Eight Below by Isham... but he's far from one of my favourite composers.

Cornish has done Five Children and It and three other unknown films. I pray that Nicholaj Arcel gets the remake of IOLS at Universal in production (and have her take another crack at it, more people deserve to hear how talented she is).

Though I don't doubt she's an excellent composer, I'd need a lot more than that to be able to put her in my top 5 list when compared to the many other composers' long and fruitful careers. But hey, that's me! Fair enough I guess.

NP: Clips from "De Wolfe's Music Library" (from the website)

Timmer may be the only one who really appreciates many of these clips but there's some great childhood memories conjured up by this selection.

    Highlights include:

    - "Left Bank Two" - Vision On - Wayne Hill (Track 1)
    - "Merry Occarina" - Vision On - Pierre Arvay (Track 3)
    - "Up To Date" - Man About The House - Johnny Hawksworth (Track 7)
    - "Rite De La Terre" - Time Slip - Edward Michael (Track 15)
    - "Distant Hills" - Crown Court - Simon Haseley (Track 20)

She has at least two or three tracks from each movie up on her official web site. They sound really good, most of the time it's hit-or-miss with up-and-coming composers, but Cornish has "it" from the get-go. I'm surprised John Powell isn't recommending her left and right for her talents -- ever since she started co-orchestrating his more recent scores it adds a new dimension to Powell's sound.

NP: Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea (Joe Hisashi)

Splendid, particularly "Deep Sea Ranch" and "Mother of the Sea." Hisashi really knows how to create oceanic undulations to simulate the fluid movement of the sea, but just make it wondrous. Some cues remind me of Alan Menken's work on The Little Mermaid (score-wise, not song-wise), although the kiddie song at the end almost ruins the album for me.

The Cassandra Crossing - Jerry Goldsmith

    This is late seventies Goldsmith.
Some of his very best scores come from this era and I love them all!
Though I do struggle with this one ............ a little.
Nice to have a complete score release but, unlike the album version (disc 2) it's in mono. slant
  3. 'Let the Right One In' from LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Soderqvist)

This score always leaves me with a very heavy heart.

Actually I recant my last statement. I have no struggle with this now after listening once again.
    The action cues are stunning!
    Powerhouse Goldsmith!
    Love it!!!

NP : THE GOLDEN SEAL - John Barry & Dana Kaproff

Gorgeous score! That I love the Barry tracks goes without saying but Kaproff's work is excellent too and fits well.

  4. APOLLO 13 - PROMO (James Horner)

One of the best examples of how a score can transform a good motion picture into a brilliant one. Beautiful themes, haunting vocals and very effective suspense / action music make this a winner in my book. 1995 remains to this day one of his strongest years with 3 fantastic scores. cool

BRAVEHEART being one of them!? What's the 3rd?

APOLLO 13 is one of those scores where it's great to have the Promo and the regular release.

I think it's fantastic and have been utterly addicted to it too... but I still wish Desplat had given the score a little more 'energy'. If it had the energy of, say, a Powell score it would probably be in my top 5 or even top 3 of last year. (Also, Desplat's music does feel a little too precise and clinical at times.)

IMO Legends of the Fall...one of the first scores I fell in love with, and in my top 3 Horner list (with Apollo 13 and The Perfect Storm).
Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you
