    ANGELO MILLI - Seven Pounds

Nice composer, needs to find a more personal musical identity though. This come across as a rather enjoyable mix of Thomas Newman's quirky side and Cliff Martinez's SOLARIS (listen to "Seven Pounds/Leaving Home" or "a good man") for instance.

I don´t know if it is on the soundtrack cd, but in the film Horner´s Danger Motif makes an special guest appearance (twice to be exact). I couldn´t stop laughing even if that particular moment of the film is pretty dramatic. I can not believe it´s random. Milli has to know what those four notes are the same way Debney knew it when he did Lair. Anyway, hilarious.

Yes I liked it. Good performances from Will Smith and Rosario Dawson, pretty original plot and what I like the most in this kind of films: not overdramatic.

Plus the four note motif guest appearance.

He's no Hopkins or Oldman (they just happened to be two great actors who's names came to mind), but he does have screen presence. He's interesting to watch. I enjoy watching Will Smith in movies... which is exactly why he's a very good movie star.

I don't know, he's still sort of young, he can only become better, and if he picks the more memorable roles in his career I'm sure we'll see some standout performances, maybe that is what's missing: good fleshed-out characters he can get his teeth into (like in Ali). And there are times he can make me cry, even when he was still acting like a crazy teenager in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He has that ability to immediately make you comfortable with his character and make you feel what he's feeling. I think that's one of the most important aspects of being an actor, from an audience standpoint.
"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G.
  3. NP: Et Apres (Desplat)

The only bad thing about hearing this score is that it is the third Desplat score in two and a half months, and the last one for a while.

NP In the Electric Mist (Marco Beltrami) -in the film-

Even Beltrami has gone Powell with this one. Really, Powell should have trademarked his Bourne theme/sound. He´d be multi-multi-multi-millionaire.

Anyway, a minor effort by Beltrami, dominated by that Powellish motif (I wouldn´t call it a theme) and an acoustic ensemble.

    The Player - Thomas Newman
First listen...and almost certainly the last.
This is quite unlistenable, mainly consisting of mashed together odd and quirky trademark "Thomas Newman sounds" without much benefit of a melody. I think it worked very well in the film (which I really need to see again...it's been too long), but on CD it doesn't work at all.

    1492: Conquest Of Cubase- Vangelis
It's one of those scores that essentially is mostly harmless.
By God it isn't good (in fact its unsubtlety and ease is cringeworthy at times), but its thematic approach certainly grabs the attention. Enjoyable in the background, but not a particularly engrossing or challenging listen. And that's just fine at times.
