Something Wicked This Way Comes James Horner
First listen. This promo/bootleg/whatever-it-is comes to a nice healthy 45 minutes. The first track is vintage 80s Horner!
Would love this to get a release. Coupled with the wonderful rejected score by Delerue. A rare example of both rejected and replacement score being top-quality. -

Snow Falling on Cedars (James Newton Howard)
Beautiful, simply moving atmospheric score, one of his very best. I like Howard's scores that show personality, that stand out from the crowd with an original sound, like this one. From Tarawa until the end it shows James' most mindbogglingly gorgeous writing.
JNH's best non-Shyamalan score for me. Wonderful. -

For me as well, along with THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE and as far non-Shyamalan scores are concerned.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Couple of tracks from THE WRESTLER (Clint Mansell)
A disappointment. Too many electronics, too many guitars, no orchestral or organic elements, mostly suondscapes. I am wondering if Mansell will soon be able to even reach the levels of THE FOUNTAIN.
Orchestra would have been too much for this film. Not humble enough.
NP: Les Notes de L'ecran vol 2 (Vladimir Cosma)
A compilation of two Cosma scores from the now defunct Cinefonia label. One of the scores is a more classically-influenced epic score, the other is more of a romantic comedy. Both are treats. I was fortunate enough to get this one for review back when the label was in operation. (Although it seems like I never got a review done before the website went defunct.)A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Hocus Pocus John Debney
I used to watch this film a lot as a kid, so I have some very nostalgic feelings towards it. A great little score full of energy and fun. -

Prince Caspian - Harry Gregson-Williams
Pretty enjoyable, if rather lacking substance. It does sometimes feel as if it wants to be a James Horner score (though not half as much as Steven's score immediately above) but HGW isn't good enough to pull that off. -

You can do so much, even humble and small-scale, with a string quartet or a small chamber orchestra.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Their instincts were pretty good here not to go further than they did. The film is more from the Dardenne Brothers school of filmmaking than anything else, meaning music isn't going to be used to create or duplicate feelings that aren't already there in the performances. If it doesn't sound like much away from the film, that's because all was doing was providing an elusive sense of 'something more'.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I agree. This movie didn't need anything more than what's already there. The realistic performance in this movie didn't need anything extraneous getting tacked on. Darren made very good choices with the music for his previous films and this movie proves that he knows exactly what his movies needs. -

"Dances With Wolves"
Truely one of the greatest film scores and an example of where fact transcends opinion to make it such. Barry at his strongest and creating a lush, emotional, score full of themes and wonderful ideas. The chances of a score ever being made like this again, are almost non existant, especially when you have people like Zimmer in the mix.
This is the longer CD, with 21 tracks, and while being advertised as "complete" on the sticker, it is not the complete film score, having watched the film two times (one just in the passed couple days) I can vouch for that. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

What a wonderful score it is. Such an array of beautiful themes in a single score has certainly not been matched in almost two decades since. -

Indeed, and the best part -- no theme is bad; they are all excellent. From the Two-Socks theme, to the John Dunbar theme, etc.
And the orchestrations are terrific. And the orchestra playing too.The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Best part of the movie and score, IMO. I love its usage in the recent Disney commercials. It typifies the kind of Disney spirit I've always loved. -

JAN A.P. KACZMAREK - The visitor
Serene and peaceful, piano driven with small string orchestra, chamber musical and deeply melancholic at parts, romantic at others, with gorgeous violin and celli soli interweaving with the piano themes. Long and complex melodic lines, large thematic passages, very colorful. A very pleasant musical experience.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Well, i don't think the one fact cancels the other automatically I like Darren Aronofsky's work in general and not everything has been in the likes of THE FOUNTAIN. If the WRESTLER also carries his character as well, i don't see a reason why i'd not like it.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I liked The Wrestler, but there´s a problem IMO. I still don´t know if Mickey Rourke performs the character or performs himself.
On the other hand, Aranofsky can´t be more realistic (although predictable) describing the world the characters live in.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -
