Halloween 2
Oh my god. Words can not describe how awful this movie is -- even if you love the entire Halloween franchise (including Rob Zombie's 2007 remake), I am hard pressed to find anything redeeming about the RZ sequel. I can list 24 reasons why no one should see this, but the ending takes the cake: The end scene, which is the only scene in the movie to use John Carpenter's recognizable theme, is both bizarre and unintentionally hilarious. Oh yeah, and the Bates score is awful.
I am glad Patrick Lussier is doing the third movie (which will have the dubious benefit of being shot in 3D). At least it'll be shot and edited decently, and maybe with a Wandmacher or Beltrami score accompanying it.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

Question remains for me, as well as regarding Marcel too 'cause he also does this stuff: why ?

Watched some of "Joe Somebody" while exercising this morning.
Tim Allen plays a father who's going nowhere in a job, divorced -- while his wife still lives in the same house and is seeing someone else (kissing right infront of him), and finally get's slugged in the workplace parking lot while trying to kindly ask for his parking space from a taller, bullying employee who takes it from him -- right in front of his daughter.
It's not hte greatest comedy, but it's an extremely decent watch and a quite enjoyable. Tim eventually decides to take karate lessons from a has-been movie actor and together they both improve their life, leading full circle back to the bully.
I've personally enjoyed George s. Clinton's score, and would hope for a CD release (other than the two tracks on a promotional sampler CD). It ranges from semi funky, to sad.
I've enjoyaed Allen in every thing I've seen him in. He's always fun, doesn't have sucky iffy moment like Will Ferrel, and can actually act rather decently.
This isn't an off-the-wall wild comedy, it's a seriocomically told story. Very recommended if you enjoy such films. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Watched Casino Royale last night on the TV - for the first time. It turned out to be quite an entertaining film though I didn't think of it as a "James Bond film" as there wasn't much to point the film in that direction. There's so many films of a similar type around (e.g., the Bourne series of films.)
The lack of the familiar theme was something I missed and it was a welcome relief to finally hear it - though it was just right at the end (were the film-makers finally giving the all-clear for Daniel Craig to finally become THE James Bond?)

I watched The World is Not Enough the other night and it made me appreciate just how good a film Casino Royale is (comparatively). -

Yeah, it's miles better than the Brosnan ones, which didn't start brilliantly and still managed to get progressively worse. -

Which is a shame since Brosnan made such a great James Bond!

I know it's a bit after the event, but did anyone watch the Darren Brown (UK trickster) programme where he "predicted" the winning lottery numbers?
Watching a later Mock The Week, it was great to see comedian David Mitchell having a go at the whole thing:

I had a great weekend with Tom Cruise. Yes, of course, i saw some of the Tom Cruise DVD collection. Moreover, i have recently purchased Mission:Impossible trilogy box set and enjoyed all the three films.
Mission Impossible
This is great spy action thriller. Tom Cruise looks very handsome in this movie. Great theme music by Lalo Schrifin and good score by Danny Elfman and well directed by Brian De Palma
Mission Impossible II
This is not a action thriller but good action movie. Its typical John Woo film. This is completely stylish action flick. Worth watching!
Mission Impossible III
For the first time, i watched this movie. I didn't watched this movie at theater, but thanks to DVD, it is really very nice action thriller. Overall, I like Mission:Impossible movies more than James Bond movies. I never liked James Bond movies except Golden Eye
Minority Report
Superb sci-fi action thriller. Tom Cruise displayed his true acting skills and naturally, credit goes to Steven Spielberg. I expect this kind of films from Spielberg, not like War of the Worlds. Strangely, i have become very addict to John Williams' score for this movie. Great score indeed!
The Spiderwick Chronicles
This is a good family fantasy movie. I really like this movie and also score, but only irritating stuff was that poor sound editing and mixing, on some occasion, it was quite too loud and noisy. Apart from that, it has very good visual effects and great score from James Horner.Racism, Prejudices and discrimination exists everywhere. -

Yesterday I watched LONELY ARE THE BRAVE. (No, not because of the recent score release.) I think this movie belongs to the very good, but not great category. All the principal actors were good, and I really enjoyed the mood of the black and white photography. Goldsmith's score was also good but watching the movie didn't make me rush and buy the CD. -

Lost Land of the Volcano
A very enjoyable BBC series exploring the natural world in a remote part of Papua New Guinea. They went into a "lost world", a very inaccessible crater, and discovered a couple of new species of mammal. I loved the tree kangaroo, not a new discovery, but an animal I'd never seen before. And I loved the enthusiasm of the presenters, particularly the brilliant insect specialist (George McGavin?) -

It's not as bad as it sounds. And anyway, you can always ruminate over whether they are space aliens or real angels. -

Not much time for movies thanks to paper submission deadlines. But I did see a couple over the weekend-
The Golden Door (Nuovomondo)
Very good. From the director of Respiro. This one's about the early wave of immigration from Italy to America. Most of the immigration themed films I've seen have only dealt briefly with the journey, focusing instead on the life after coming to America. This one's quite different. We get an extended look at the customs and beliefs of the 'old world', the long journey by sea and the immigration process at Ellis Island. There's quite a bit of stark minimalism (little or no score, long periods without dialogue) but it's a rewarding watch.
Dil Se...
Bolly movie directed by Mani Ratnam. This was his 3rd 'terrorist' themed film (out of 4 till date). The first half was intolerable with Shah Rukh Khan hamming his way. But the rest of the film was decent. -

Yellowstone
BBC2 started a 3-part documentary on Yellowstone National Park this evening. Some great images - this episode concentrated on winter and it looked stunning.
Edmund Butt's score for the series certainly had it's moments and I look forward to hearing more next week.
I've just started my second viewing of this excellent series, joyfully this time on the BBC HD channel. Some stunning footage.
I hope Edmund Butt's music can be released - don't suppose it will be, but it's very much worthy of it compared with some of the crap that does get out there.
And now I've finished watching it again. Great series. The third episode is my favourite - particularly the beavers!
Fascinating how things are interconnected. The beaver population in Yellowstone was virtually extinct in 1995, then wolves were reintroduced and now the beavers are thriving. Why? Because the wolves started hunting the elk, which meant there were less elk to go round knocking trees down, which meant there were more trees for the beavers to use in their dams. And they're such wonderful little creatures.
