Les Filles Du Botaniste (The Chinese Botanist's Daughters)
Utterly vacuous film. There are pretty dames (Mylene Jampanoi & Li Ziaoran) and they love each other but homosexuality is taboo in China so they have to hide their relationship. There's plenty of breathtaking cinematography with every frame a riot of colors. But it all seems very staged-- 'Let's show a beautiful shot of them rowing by the lake; let's add some confetti and jugglers... never mind the reason for them being there'.
Eric Levi's score has a couple of nice themes but there's not much he does aside from it. Its also baffling why a scene with the two girls frolicking in the water should receive a big choral theme.
Bollywood could definitely use some of the cinematography gorgeousness here.
BhelPuri, i simply admire your taste and passion towards world cinema. I really wonder how do you have this much enormous amount of patience in watching this kind of movies. I wouldn't do that if i were in your place. In fact, i should learn from you. But i would like to ask you one thing that where do you get all these movies?. Awesome indeed!

The Bourne Ultimatum
I watched this movie last night on TV channel. This movie is good and neat action movie, but only one thing i don't like about this movie that irritating Cinematography. When i watched this movie in theater, i was highly irritated. From beginning to end, camera was keep on shaking and shaking. I wonder whether cameramen were in drugs or was that deliberate attempt made by directors or producers?. Let it be action scenes, conversation scenes, camera was shaking and shaking. I got terrible headache. Do anyone know that this movie received any Razzie awards for Worst Cinematography?
Actually that's kinda like Paul Greengrass' signature, he likes to use shaky handheld shots to make the scenes more "realistic" and tense. It does get confusing and annoying sometimes, agreed. -

What?? Paul Greengrass's signature?
I was actually expecting some kind of explanation for my above statement. However, i totally dislike this kind of shaky handled shots. Just sucks!Racism, Prejudices and discrimination exists everywhere. -

Well then, the answer is the director deliberately asked the cameramen to do that. -

One doesn't need patience for these. Just a willingness to give it a try. I used to watch most of them from Netflix but I canceled my subscription since the last 4 months or so. I just don't have the time to watch a movie every day. My school library has a limited DVD collection so I check a few out every weekend.
I guess there's something similar to Netflix in India-- Bigflix! It's still going to take a while to get a good selection of films but there might be specialty stores for that (does Cinema Paradiso in Chennai still exist?) -

Angels & Demons
Absolutely staggering. The first hour is as boring as ever, even though the characters are now doing both the running and explaining at the same time - and with slightly better haircuts. After that, snore-inducingly bad... but the final 40 minutes are laugh-out-loud funny.
Plus, only Ron Howard could direct the following two sequences as action set-pieces:
1. A trip to the Vatican Library
2. The announcement of a new Pope
It's essentially Mission: Impossible goes to the Vatican, with a bit of Thunderbirds and Star Trek thrown in for good measure. It is stupid in ways I could not possibly have imagined.
Agreed. I caught a bit of it yesterday as a few of my flatmates were watching it. Boring, pointless, a bit pretentious, and stupid.
Here's an example of the stupidity of this film: Zimmer's score accentuates the fact a car's lights have been turned on using action music. Well done Hans, fucking well done. :slow-sarcastic-clapping: -

I watched this last night.
Hard to disagree with much of what you say but I did enjoy this goofy nonsense ( maybe I was in the right mood? ), I have to say though, that I thought Hans Zimmer's score was AWFUL! It made many scenes cheesy and laughable ( which admittedly wasn't hard to do ) hyping up action that didn't exist.
I don't much like the soundtrack as a stand alone listen either, Joshua Bell's violin solos sound a little too close to Vaughan Williams at times so just make me want to play real musical genius instead of a pile of luke warm noodling.

Do you think it's casual??? then you don't understand Zimmer!!! This guy knew how stupid the movie is, and that's why "160 bpm" is not a track in latin

This is hands down the best exchange in the movie.
Sheriff of Nottingham: Locksley! I'm gonna cut your heart out with a spoon.
Guy of Gisbourne: Why a spoon cousin? Why not an axe?
Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's dull, you twit, it'll hurt more.
And then later when the Sheriff offs Gisbourne with a newly formed sword he says: "At least I didn't use a spoon."
Alan Rickman was absolutely brilliant in Robin Hood. Deliciously over the top. His death scene is nothing but spectacular... spit and all!

Untraceable
Surprisingly reasonabe, very dark thriller. Some very grotesque moments and the plot is rather silly but I quite enjoyed it. Christopher Young's score is excellent! -

Red Cliff Parts 1 & 2
Absolutely unbelievable !!!
John Woo's big comeback is a full Chinese produced epic in two parts that ranks among the most epic films I've ever seen. With huge scenes containing tons of extra's and explosions and exquisitely shot fights going on at the same time I can only compare this with the battles of the TLOTR films, without the fantasy creatures and sweeping score, maybe a little less long in duration but not less spectacular. Acting is good and I liked each side's motivations and attention to character development. It's a film about good vs evil, but executed in that unmistakable Woo style with brilliant editing, building suspense and some slow-mo shots of people clashing with the sharp end of a blade. There are even white pigeons in this one. It wouldn't be a Woo film if there were none.
4 and half hours long this movie works best if you see it in two parts, forget the shorter version that cuts the movie's length in half, this is the version you need to see. Being his most ambitious project so far this is for Woo fans and lovers of epic battle films alike.
Having these two epics uncut on blu-ray would be sweet. Supposedly they are stunning in the audio / visual department."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

It's good music, especially in Part 1 there are some standout moments, however a lot of the music is recycled for Part 2 and I couldn't tell I was listening to a further developed work. It's definitely not Fellowship and Two Towers quality writing. But the themes are simple enough and do their job complimenting the on-screen action, which is what matters in the end.
Watch it Demetris, it's hugely entertaining. When I finished part 1 I instantly felt the urge to watch part 2, it's that good."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Watched a special on the conspirators, the plot, and what happened leading up to and after Lincoln's assissination.
Then afterward caught the beginning of another Lincoln special that used old photos of Lincoln and computer software to create errily real CGI's of Lincoln walking around, and even getting shot in the head. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.
